A peignoir is a necessary item for most women. In addition to the function of keeping warm, serving as clothing for leisure, it has a decorative function. A properly chosen peignoir is a real weapon of seduction!
What is a peignoir?
Peignoir (literal translation – “to comb hair”) is light clothing for evening or morning activities.
Fabric selection
Basics the requirement for fabrics for negligees is their hygroscopicity, breathability, and the sensations that these fabrics evoke in a woman.
Let's look in detail at how to sew a peignoir with your own hands.
Popular fabrics for negligees:
- silk, silk satin;
- cotton knitwear;
- viscose;
- polyester fibers;
- lace;
- guipure;
- natural and synthetic chiffon.
Advice! Choose fabrics that are pleasant to the touch, bright or pastel colors, and come up with more effective finishing - from trim to lush flounces, decorated with lace or embroidery.
Fabric calculation
With a fabric width of 145-150 centimeters, we make the following calculations: product length + sleeve length.
Advice! Cutting is done using the fabric folded in half.
With a material width of 80-90 centimeters - two product lengths + two sleeve lengths.
If you are going to sew a wraparound peignoir, then add another length to the product.
Measurements:
We need the following measurements:
- Chest circumference - along the protruding points of the chest.
- Hip circumference - at the protruding points of the hips
- Sleeve length - from the base of the shoulder to the desired sleeve length.
- The length of the product is from the seventh cervical vertebra along the back to the required length.
Peignoir with smell
A light peignoir can be sewn without buttons - a belt will replace them.
This is a basic pattern that is easy to model.
This model has several options for collars and pockets.
Using additional lace as a trim, or replacing the sleeve details with it, we get completely different models.
Having made wide sleeves, we get a kimono. All that remains is to choose the appropriate fabric with oriental motifs.
We make pockets with patches or place them in the side seams.
The pattern is given in Russian size 48 (bust circumference 96 cm).

Long peignoir with dropped shoulder
As decoration a belt is used, as well as binding, which is used to trim the armholes and side of the product. One-piece back, deep wraparound fronts, darts from the shoulder seam, V-shaped neckline.
The sleeves are straight, shirt cut. The neckline, sides, and the bottom of the sleeves are trimmed with a wide 3 cm wide ribbon.
Required:
- fabric – 5.5 m with a width of 90 cm, 4 m. with a width of 150 cm;
- finishing tape, finished bias tape - 5.5 m;
- tailor's chalk;
- scissors;
- Threads of a suitable tone;
- sewing machine;
- lace.
Cut details:
- one-piece back with fold;
- 2 shelves;
- 2 sleeves;
- burlap pocket - 4 parts.
Belt (finished product length 190 cm, width 3 cm).
Sequence of work:
- Place the patterns on the prepared fabric, chalk, and cut out. Don't forget about allowances.
- Sew the darts on the fronts and iron towards the front.
- Using a backstitch, sew the shoulder seams of the front and back, and sew the sleeves into the open armhole.
- Using the marks, sew the burlap pockets to the shelves and back. Press the seams.
- Fold the right sides of the sleeves, fronts and back, stitch with a single seam to the pocket, then sew the burlap sections of the pockets, side seams to the bottom. Iron the seams towards the shelf.
- Finish the sides of the shelves and the neck with finishing tape. To do this, place the trim with the front side inside out along the cut edge, stitch, turn the trim onto the shelf and stitch to the edge by 0.2 cm.
- Sew the outer edge of the binding onto the shelf to the edge by 0.2 cm. Also process the bottom of the sleeves.
- If there is no finishing tape, then you will have to cut out the hem and facing of the neck, and add a hem along the bottom of the sleeve.
- Fold the bottom of the robe and topstitch by 3 cm.
- Fold the waistband lengthwise along the midline. Stitch along the longitudinal sections and short sides, leaving an opening for turning out. Turn the belt inside out, sew up the hole by hand, then stitch the belt to the edge by 0.2 cm.
- For those who love collars, we recommend two types of them - a shawl or an extended turn-down.
Advice! Make this model from natural fabric in white or cream shades. Extend the pattern to the floor, and then decorate it generously with lace - you will get a Victorian peignoir, which is now fashionable.
Peignoir baby dollar
We sew this type of peignoir without a pattern.
Measurements:
- Skirt length – We determine the length of the skirt from the ribbon under the bust to the desired length of the product.
- Hip circumference – at the protruding points of the hips.
- Chest circumference - along the protruding points of the chest.
- Circumference under the chest - along the torso in the area of the ribs.
- Bust height is from the shoulder to the band under the bust, across the top of the bust.
Required:
- Fabric – 1.2 – 1.5 m with a width of 150 cm.
- Finishing tape, finished bias tape - 4-5 m (optional).
- Lace.
- Tailor's chalk.
- Scissors.
- Threads of a suitable tone.
- Sewing machine.
Cut details:
- The skirt panel is 1 inch with a fold.
- Bodice detail – 4 parts.
Sequence of work:
- We cut out the skirt. The width is arbitrary, but not less than hip circumference + 15 cm.
- We sew the edge of the skirt.
- The bodice will be cut out triangles, double with stitched darts.
- Sew the triangles to the strip of lace.
- We make spaghetti straps.
- We sew our bodice to a strip of lace.
- We make ties.
- We decorate as desired.
- We sew a wide strip of lace to the gathered skirt.
- You can make all the thin parts from ready-made bias tape.
Important! The skirt starts just below the bust - not from the waist. The triangles act as bra cups.
