Some wardrobe items are universal, suitable for almost any style and occasion. These include a jacket and a blazer. At first glance, the products seem the same. In this article we will figure out what the difference between them is: in application and basic properties.
What is a jacket and blazer
Blazer - an element of outerwear, part of a costume. A type of light jacket that fastens with buttons, most often made of fabric. There are single-breasted and double-breasted.
The cut is complex and has several required components:
- Lapels are lapels at the top and come in different shapes: straight, peaked and shawl. They vary stylistically;
- Buttonhole – a small cut on the lapel, an optional detail;
- Buttons - the line of decoration begins where the lapel ends, the number depends on the type of cut: from 1 to 4. The top one is usually not buttoned;
- Long sleeve with buttons – 3-4 details on the lower part, can be either decorative or have the option to unbutton;
- Side pockets: decorative (sports models) or regular, fulfilling their functions; on some products they are deliberately sewn;
- Chest pocket. Decorative element. It is turned on solely to place a scarf in it;
- Slots are small cuts on the bottom of the product, along the seams.
Blazer – simplified modification of the jacket.
The product came into fashion from the equipment of sailors: initially it was a light jacket that protected from wind and cold. It looked stylish, adding idleness and solemnity to the clothes. It lost its specialization in the 19th century and became firmly established in fashion as a simplified sports alternative to the classic jacket with a complex cut. Distinctive features of the product: a simpler cut, a specific dark blue color and large gilded buttons. After popularization, it becomes an element of clothing for members of aristocratic circles. It is worn in specialized closed clubs, at receptions and parties. The symbols of the club served as decorations: stripes were located on the front upper part of the product or engraved on the buttons. A classic example of a combination: a dark-colored model and light-colored trousers. The item must have patch pockets and a vent.
It has undergone some changes in modern fashion. The product does not have to have a dark blue tint: it can be dark green, burgundy, crimson. IMPORTANT that it is sewn exclusively from a single-color material, unlike the original. Buttons can be either gold plated or silver. Pairs with flannel trousers and some styles of jeans. Since it was originally used as clothing for outdoor activities or sports, the fabric chosen is high-quality and durable. Use corduroy or light wool.
Differences
- The jacket is a more classic option. Suitable for business, formal style. Blazer is a lightweight variation, with a looser and simpler cut. It will look inappropriate in a business dress code. Used as loose clothing for everyday wear, casual style, active recreation.
- Fabric: Higher quality and more expensive materials are chosen for the jacket. Sometimes it is sewn from fabric with various patterns and ornaments. Blazer is a cheaper and lighter fabric, ALWAYS monochrome.
- Buttons: For the jacket, simple buttons are used, which MUST match the main color. When sewing a blazer, it is decorated with colorful, eye-catching buttons.
- Slots: on the back of the jacket, on the sides on the blazer.
- Patch and various symbols on the blazer.
- The blazer is NOT SUITABLE for colder seasons: late autumn, early spring, winter. The combination with trousers made of thick materials will look ridiculous.
