The jacket is dirty. What to do? The easiest way is to take the product to dry cleaning, but this is not always possible, so you have to wash it yourself, at home. This article is about how to do it right.
Washing methods
Washing is only necessary if the product is completely soiled. If stains or greasy areas appear, get rid of them using other methods, without completely immersing yourself in water. If the lining is dirty, you must first remove the stains and then wash it completely.
In the washing machine
There is no clear answer: is it safe to wash a jacket in a machine or not? Different materials are used for sewing, which require a special approach and different cleaning methods. Material to be taken into account:
- Wool-blend products - hand/brush;
- Velvet/corduroy - brush;
- Linen, cotton, viscose - hand wash or delicate in the washing machine;
- Atlas - manual;
- Synthetics - spin at a speed not exceeding 800 rpm.
First, check for prohibition labels. The procedure is harmless for synthetic products. Use liquid detergent and conditioner - this will make rinsing easier and eliminate streaks.
IMPORTANT! Immediately after ironing or steaming the jacket, dry it on hangers.
Dry wash
For wool and corduroy, cleaning with a brush or cloth that does not leave threads or lint is suitable. There are several ways:
- Mix salt and ammonia in a ratio of 1:4. Wet the brush in the resulting solution and clean off the dirt.
- Use a cut potato: rub the stain with the cut, remove any remaining starch with a clean napkin.
- Sprinkle talcum powder on oily areas. Leave for a few minutes and sweep up any remaining residue. It is more effective to use gasoline to remove talc.
- Mix glycerin with ammonia in a 1:2 ratio to remove coffee or strong tea stains.
- Vinegar can effectively clean stains on corduroy and wool items.
- Effective stain removers, buy them at a hardware store. It is IMPORTANT to choose the right product for each material.
- Leather products are first cleaned of dust, then wiped with a soapy cloth. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline, then wipe off any remaining residue to help remove stains.
- For suede, use a solution of milk and soda.
Wet
An alternative to a typewriter. Will return the jacket to its previous appearance.
For the procedure you will need water, ethyl and ammonia, and a brush.
Lay the jacket on a towel. Dip the brush in the resulting solution and wet the fabric. Then brush in one direction and leave for 10 minutes. Then iron the jacket through gauze, hang it on a hanger and let it air dry.
The sender will help remove unpleasant odors: using a special device (steamer) or in the bathroom, opening the hot water tap for half an hour.
Manual
You can first do the procedures described above. It is necessary to choose the right powder: depending on the type of fabric and the nature of the contamination. Or use laundry soap. Hand washing begins with soaking: dilute some detergent in a warm (not hot!) detergent, immerse the product in it and leave for several hours. Rub the most dirty areas lightly, but don't overdo it. Then squeeze without much pressure. Replace dirty water with clean water several times. After spinning, rinse in water with vinegar added. Squeeze it lightly again (do not twist it!!!) and hang it on a hanger. After drying, iron the jacket with an iron or using a vertical steamer.
Shower
If you are afraid that the jacket will lose its shape, use this method. Hang the product on a hanger and moisten it with warm water. Apply soap (in liquid form) to dirty areas, then use a shower to thoroughly rinse off the foam. Let the jacket dry, then iron it through cheesecloth.
