What do most people associate a jacket with? Of course, with a classic suit, a pair of shoes, a tie and a briefcase! However, modern fashion knows no boundaries or conventions, and the bold combination of jacket and jeans has firmly established itself in the wardrobes of urban fashionistas.
Democratic jeans “extinguish” the emphasized formality of the jacket, adding freedom and informality to elegance.. A man who wears such different things in one look either achieves his goal and looks chic, or looks ridiculous if the items of clothing do not “sing” together.
How to choose these items of clothing harmoniously? How to combine classic and casual style? How to combine them? This is discussed in our article.
Basic selection rules
How do you know if the image is well chosen? The answer is simple - it should not attract excessive attention from others and fit perfectly into the situation where its “carrier” is located..
So, in the office dress code of most companies on Fridays, you can replace classic men's trousers with dark straight classic jeans without frills. But leave torn knees, stripes, scuffs, prints, low rise or slim silhouette for informal meetings with friends, city walks and outings into nature.
If trendy youth models match your age, temperament and lifestyle - go for it! For a person who is conservative by nature and not used to standing out, it is better to remain faithful to the classic cut in everyday life.
Never wear a suit jacket with Levi's - these are incompatible things, and that's why:
- Suit fabric does not match denim.
- If you break the set and wash the top more often than the bottom, they will soon begin to differ in color - you risk ruining the suit.
- A classic jacket is distinguished by its inherent features: patch flap pockets, one or two vents.
Which jacket goes with which jeans?
Never wear a double-breasted blazer with denim trousers - they don't go together at all.! A good pair for jeans is:
- short, loose jacket with 1-2 button fastening, a sporty, urban option made of soft but dense matte fabrics;
- jockey style with three pockets at the waist and hips;
- hunting model with shoulder insert;
- A strictly cut dark blazer is perfect for an evening out.
Attention! Consider the seasonality of the fabric of the bottom and top items.
After putting on your jacket, look in the mirror. If you have several of the following symptoms, you should change the model or size:
- the silhouette is baggy;
- the shoulder seam is offset, not centered;
- the sleeve is higher than the protruding bone on the arm or much lower.
The highest quality and most expensive jacket will look ridiculous if it doesn’t fit your figure or is bought in the wrong size.
Not this! Remember that oxfords, cufflinks and regular ties are not worn with a pair of jeans and a jacket (it is better to choose a plain skinny one or a colored bow tie).
What to add to the image?
It all depends on where you want to go with your set and what you feel most comfortable wearing. Let's look at a few of the most common images:
- Casual: classic dark or light jeans with a shirt or thin jumper in a matching color, and a jacket on top. Shoes: sneakers, sneakers, moccasins, loafers, rough boots.
- Business: white fitted shirt, classic dark jeans, black or dark blue blazer; dark classic shoes.
- Dandy: a bright printed T-shirt, ripped jeans, and a casual jacket on top.
- “Going out”: a bright shirt, a bow tie (no formal ties!), a neckerchief over an open collar, slightly tapered jeans (you can have some decoration, but don’t overload it), and a blazer on top.
- Smart casual: checkered jacket with imitation patches on the elbows, plain T-shirt or golf, faded jeans.
- If it's cold and you don't want to wear a jacket, you can wear a simple plain jumper or cardigan with buttons under the jacket over the shirt. Be careful not to overdo it with layers, otherwise it will look sloppy.
Lifehack. If you need to quickly transform your everyday outfit into an evening or weekend outfit, you need to replace only one thing under the jacket - for example, instead of a colored shirt, wear a crisp white one.
Now you know how to create a stylish men's look. Dare and experiment!
