The Oscar ceremony traditionally brings together the most famous and popular film and show business stars on the red carpet. Coming out on the path is like a fashion show, women and men try to look breathtakingly beautiful and go down in history as the most stylish and fashionable. But sometimes, something can go wrong, and the outfit chosen so carefully gives a completely opposite effect. The star ends up in a kind of anti-rating, which includes the most unsuccessful and ridiculous outfits of celebrities.
What were the worst Oscar dresses before 2000?
Looking at unsuccessful images of stars can sometimes be much more interesting than looking at beautiful, stylish dresses that are perfect for the occasion. And some stars give us this opportunity by wearing frankly ridiculous or too revealing outfits.
The most terrible images of the ceremony of the last century are recognized:
- Cher (the singer and actress failed with her outfits four times; her passion was the so-called “naked” dresses, in which she sported two ceremonies in a row; despite the star’s excellent figure, they looked truly ridiculous);
- Demi Moore (in 1989, on the red carpet, the then young star appeared in a very unusual image, she designed it herself, the costume consisted of bicycle shorts combined with a velvet skirt and a rigid corset, the public did not appreciate the efforts of the young designer);
- Kim Basinger (the fashionable failure of the movie star took place in 1990, Kim also decided to design her own look and came to the ceremony in a terribly wrinkled white satin dress with a voluminous lining, the top consisted of an asymmetrical corset without one sleeve, instead of which a long glove was provided to match, the spectacle turned out to be not very attractive);
- Selion Dion (at the end of the twentieth century, the singer decided to stand out on the red carpet and came not in a classic outfit, but in a trouser suit, everything would have been fine if it had not been so terrible, huge shapeless trousers and a jacket, worn backwards, were the last straw sunglasses and fedora);
- Angelina Jolie (in 2000, the sex symbol of cinema decided to dilute the glitz and fun a little, and came to the ceremony in a dull black dress, it brought a little darkness, sadness and gothic into the mood of those around her).
Important! In fairness, it is worth noting that some of the images looked quite attractive, especially on the slender, ideal bodies of Hollywood beauties. However, this did not save the film stars from critical experts.
In the last century, at the Oscars, it was still customary to dress independently, choosing dresses based solely on your own taste. Today this is the work of professional stylists. They are the ones who think through the images of stars in advance down to the smallest details.
21st century: dresses that horrified their appearance at the Oscars
One of the most ridiculous dresses of the Oscar ceremony was recognized as a dress with a “dead” swan by singer Björk. The star appeared in this outfit at the ceremony in 2001. The opinions of experts were then divided, some said that it was terrible bad taste, while others argued that it was a masterpiece. Björk herself felt great in the outfit with the swan neck thrown over it.
Uma Thurman also made a splash on the red carpet in 2004, wearing a strange white dress that looked like it had been hastily cut and sewn unevenly. The costume was to be complemented by a strange vest, smoothly turning into a belt, of a blue hue. Experts immediately sent this outfit to the anti-rating of fashion stars.
In 2002, Gwyneth Paltrow shocked everyone by attending the ceremony in a terrible dress. It consisted of a gray top, similar to a T-shirt, under which Gwyneth “forgot” to wear a bra, and a black chewed skirt. The whole image looked as sloppy and unattractive as possible.
In 2015, Irina Shayk unpleasantly surprised all the partygoers after the Oscars. The model appeared in the most revealing dress-tights. The girl’s lack of underwear only added fuel to the fire and secured her place in the anti-star rating.
As it turns out, many film stars and show business stars miss the mark when creating stylish images. No one is immune from failure, because the Oscar ceremony mercilessly exposes famous women to the strict judgment of the public.
