For the first time, a cabaret dancer appeared in such an outfit. This happened several centuries ago. The attitude towards the female body at that time was radically different, and therefore a dress shortened in front was considered an extremely vulgar item of clothing. Today, on the contrary, it is perceived as something feminine and cute.
What is a dress with different hem lengths called?
There are 2 equal names: cascade and mullet. The second word is more often used by people whose professional activities are related to the world of fashion.
Important! You should distinguish between a dress with a train and a mullet. The hem of the latter has a smooth wavy transition, but the former does not have it. For a cascading silhouette, multi-layering is required, but a dress with a train can be form-fitting, single-layered and straight.
Short models of dresses short in front, long in back
The asymmetry of the hem does not have to be pronounced.A clear example of this is mini dresses, in which the difference between the back and front is about 10 cm. Typically, such dresses have a tight-fitting top (sometimes corset-type), a fitted silhouette and a very wide skirt (a la the fashion of the 50s). Another option: a wrap-around robe dress with a fluffy cascading skirt made of thick fabric that holds its shape well.
Important! In a canonical cascading dress, the back must reach the knee or fall below it, but now this rule is being actively violated by designers.
Along with fitted models, loose-fitting options are sewn. Common solutions:
- A-silhouette;
- shirt;
- Empire;
- caftan;
- shift;
- Greek;
- baby dollar
Popular materials for such wardrobe items: satin, taffeta, lace, tulle. Neckline options: off the shoulder, Queen Anne, halter neckline, U-shaped.
Long models - comfortable and practical
If short wardrobe items rarely have sleeves, then knee-length items and below (we are talking about the front part) can come with a similar cut detail. This feature will appeal to girls with large or muscular arms. They will be able to drape their features and focus the attention of others on their chest, waist or beautiful legs.
On a note! A mullet style wedding dress is a worthy option if you don’t want to buy a typical princess dress. They offer both traditional floor-length satin models with a very long train, and cropped multi-layer chiffon models - rather daring and unusual solutions.
Models with sleeves include shirt-cut styles that are trending this season, as well as sweater dresses and T-shirt dresses. They look as democratic as possible. It is recommended to wear rough lace-up boots, socks, beanies and round hats with them.
Typical materials for long dresses: voile, moire, silk, chiffon, tulle, crepe georgette. Casual style outfits are made from wool, lycra, denim, and knitwear.
