For the autumn festival, girls mostly want to be the queen in autumn. And it is not necessary to give this role to someone alone. Every parent can make their daughter the queen of autumn. After all, you can not only order or buy a ready-made suit, but also make it yourself.
Autumn dresses: design options
Of course, you can make a suit, however, a dress is a more common and acceptable option for a girl. Every girl will happily wear a bright fall dress.
There are many costume options. But to choose the right option, decide the following questions:
- long or short;
- lush or straight;
- airy or heavy;
- simple or with decorations;
- calm or bright.
By choosing one option for each question, it will be easier for you to understand your preferences. The choice also depends on the age of the child. For the younger group, you can choose a bright, fluffy dress, mainly made of tulle. For the older group, you can think about calmer and more sophisticated options.
What can you use to make an autumn dress for a girl?
The most common options for autumn dresses are tulle and velvet. The first is used for children's lush options. The second is for the calmer and nobler ones.
On a note! When using tulle as the main material, be sure to use a soft cotton lining - tulle is itchy.
However, not only these materials can be used. Satin or artificial silk, chiffon, organza, stretch and regular cotton fabric are also common.
For the most unusual options, improvised means are used: balloons, plastic bags, real leaves and much more. However, these materials are applicable for relevant competitions; at an ordinary autumn festival it is better to get by with a beautiful fabric.
Making a dress for an autumn look with your own hands
We suggest making a dress consisting of a fitted bodice and a full skirt. There can be many variations on the proposed type. But they are done mainly according to the same scheme. So, using our version as a basis, you can make any modification of this dress.
Preparatory stage
For any work a preparatory stage is necessary. Especially if this work concerns sewing.
If you plan to completely sew a dress from scratch, you will need the following measurements:
- chest girth;
- waist circumference;
- hip girth;
- bodice length: measured from chest to waist;
- Skirt length: freely chosen.
We make a pattern according to existing standards. Our dress has an extremely simple cut, so it’s not difficult to create a pattern. The top consists of a flat strip of fabric to which the straps are then attached. Therefore, the bodice pattern is constructed in the form of a trapezoid, taking into account the volume of the chest, waist and hips.
On a note! If the bodice is supposed to be made of stretch fabric, it can be made straight.
The skirt is made following the example of a tutu or tutu skirt, so it does not require a pattern.
Next, prepare all the necessary materials for sewing and get to work.
Making a dress for a girl
Let's start by creating the top of the dress:
- Cut out the pattern and transfer it to the fabric.
- Cut out the components from the fabric according to the pattern, taking into account 1-2 cm for overlock.
- Sew the pattern with one seam, which will be at the back (with stretch fabric). If the fabric does not stretch, a lock is needed. Therefore, it is better to make a pattern consisting of two parts and sew it on both sides, leaving space for a zipper on one side.
- Make the straps from a soft but durable material and stitch them to the top of the bodice.
On a note! The bodice can be made from an old T-shirt and then sew a skirt onto it.
The bodice is ready, now let's start sewing the skirt. The basis of the skirt is an elastic band, onto which tulle strips of different lengths are then attached. To make a tutu skirt for an autumn outfit, follow the instructions:
- Cut the tulle into strips of medium width and different lengths.
Important! When calculating the length of the strips, keep in mind that each of them is folded in half.
- Take a medium-width elastic band and tie one strip of tulle onto it, as shown in the picture.
- Then tie strips of different lengths in the same way until you fill all the empty spaces on the elastic.
- Sew the elastic to the bottom of the bodice so that all the knots are closed.
Ready! We got a bright and fluffy dress for the autumn ball.
