Slightly rustling, perfectly draped, weakly transmitting light - these are the main features of soft fabric. It is less electrified than silk or viscose. It practically does not fray when sewing and the machine stitch lays beautifully on top of it. The finished products hold their shape well, and they also do not reflect the shine and colors of other wardrobe items.
Fabric characteristics
The front side is very different from the back side. The first is fleecy and embossed, the second is smooth. The villi are different: thick, thin and long, specially thinned, short and soft.
The front side can be shiny, matte or artificially aged. In the latter case, a single web is not formed from the pile. The fabric appears to be frayed in places. In fact, it is simply cut off and covered on top with compounds that prevent further disintegration of the structure. The same principle applies when creating a relief design.
Regardless of the appearance of the front side, the material remains very soft. It is heavy, falls beautifully, is not see-through and protects well from the wind. It does not fade in the sun; the print is often applied using thermal printing. Other qualities vary depending on the additives.
Compound
Base – polyester. The fabric suitable for curtains often consists of 100% voluminous structured synthetic threads. To sew a dress, it is better to use fabric with additives.
Important! The smell will indicate low quality. Good material does not smell with any type of additive.
Additionally, the structure is woven into:
- viscose;
- lycra;
- satin;
- cotton;
- elastane.
Types of material for dresses
They use stretch soft, soft silk, soft satin and Niagara soft:
- Stretch soft. The composition includes lycra, which gives additional shine, elasticity and strength. The pile is dense and thick. The fabric is similar to velor and is suitable for making mattress covers, hats and bags, suits, children's clothing, and dresses.
- Soft silk. The villi are small, soft and manageable. They are often clipped to form a pattern. At the same time, the base appears, which shines and flows greatly. In appearance it is similar to silk. Evening, office and everyday outfits are created from this material.
- Soft satin. Dense and velvety material. Regulates temperature, absorbs sweat and breathes. Robes and nightgowns, shirts, and home sets are made from it.
- Niagara soft. The optimal solution for feminine dresses and shirt-cut models. The fabric is safe and suitable for sewing children's clothes.
Advantages of dress tailoring
The fabric is widely used by costume designers. They like that the material allows you to avoid using a lining. It is quite dense and does not shine through. Problems can only arise when the scene is intensely lit. If you want a completely opaque and opaque outfit, pay attention to fabric dyed in dark colors.
Looks attractive and ability to recover from sprain. Thus, the supersoft stretches along the transverse thread, but instantly returns to its original appearance after the tension subsides. The lobe also stretches, but weakly. This type of influence does not lead to distortion.
Important! Good quality supersoft is easy to identify. It has little lobar elasticity.
Cons of fabric
The material requires a special approach, caring for it cannot be called a simple matter. For example, it is dried in a spread-out form. However, this is difficult to achieve with large curtains. Problems also arise at the washing stage. You cannot set the temperature above 40 degrees, but complex contaminants are not removed with this mode. Therefore, owners of curtains and evening dresses are forced to use dry cleaning services.
Important! The spin cycle should be avoided. The water should drain on its own.
Dry cleaning is acceptable and highly recommended. The structure of the canvas is such that dust is literally attracted to the software. If you do not vacuum, wipe with a rag or treat with special substances, the dress will become a dust collector.
How to care for a soft dress so that the material lasts for a long time?
Useful recommendations and rules:
- do not wash with items made from other fabrics;
- When washing by machine, prefer to wash by hand if the composition includes viscose;
- steam rather than iron;
- use liquid powders;
- Be sure to use sprays with an antistatic effect.
If steam treatment with the device does not help, place the item on hangers and hang it in a bathtub filled with hot water. There is no strict ban on ironing, you just need to study the composition. Some subtypes of material can be ironed, others require setting a minimum temperature, and wrinkles on others can be removed not with a hot, but with a slightly warm iron.
Simple, high-quality software retains its smoothness after washing; you don’t need to do anything with it. If the dress becomes wrinkled during wear, it will be enough to rub your palm repeatedly to eliminate the problem.
