Buying a fur coat is a serious step, a long-term investment of money, and a lot of it, for warmth and beauty in the frosty winter. The purchased fur item must be exactly the right size, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to wear:
- constrained movements, inability to wear anything insulating underneath, stretched flesh, deformed cut when purchasing a small size;
- free space under a fur coat, where the cold can easily penetrate, an additional burden created by excess volume.
Fashion for fur coat styles does not change as often as for other outerwear. In recent years, a straight silhouette model with a minimum of decor has been relevant. But clothes of even such a simple style require precise selection for each figure.
What measurements should you take of yourself?
The label of any women's item contains three numbers: they indicate height, hip and chest circumference. To understand what criteria your physique meets, you need to know these indicators. We measure height:
- We take off our shoes and stand near the wall;
- straighten your back, raise your chin until a right angle is formed with your neck;
- mark the highest point of the head position;
- We move away from the wall, using a centimeter or ruler to determine the length of the body.
To measure your height at home, it is best to use the help of another person.. If this is not possible, then you need to take into account an error of 1–2 cm in the direction of increase or decrease. Be sure to take measurements of your hips and chest.
How to determine your size?
The circumference of the hips is determined by measuring them at their widest point. This indicator is very important for buying a fur coat. Chest circumference is usually measured using convex points, and the resulting figure is divided in half. The result is the size. For example, the chest circumference is 96 cm, dividing it in half we get 48. This means that for a woman with a chest circumference of 96, you need to choose a fur coat of size 48.
Important! Accurate parameters can only be obtained if all measurements are taken with minimal clothing (only underwear is allowed).
What is boundary size?
Not all women will confidently answer the question about their clothing size. Sometimes a blouse is bought in size 46, and trousers in size 48. This happens because different body parameters dictate your choice. For fur products - voluminous and durable - you need to focus on large numbers. They should become the decisive factor in purchasing a fur coat with an upward deviation in the size range.
If you take a fur item with a focus on smaller parameters, then there is a high risk that there will be excessive tightness (tightness) in places that go beyond the standard measurements. Do not buy a fur coat that is too small - it has little comfort and even less freedom of movement.If the product is stretched over the figure, like a drum, the cold will penetrate inside quite quickly.
Also, do not take something that will be too big: besides the fact that frosty air will freely walk inside the fur coat and “cool” it, it will also look quite comical.
Size Standards
Fur coats are mainly sewn for a height of 170 ± 5 cm. But sometimes in the store you can also find fur items for women with a height of 180 or 190 cm. Be sure to pay attention to this indicator when buying a fur coat, otherwise in a fitted model the waist will be shifted, and with an extra or At a shorter length, the silhouette itself will not look harmonious.
The Russian size range of fur products in the store is from 38 to 66. There is also a European (from 32 to 60) and international (from XXS to XL) systems.
How do you know if the size is correct?
It is not difficult. A few simple signs will help:
- If everything is chosen correctly, then the fur coat will not hinder movement and will not become deformed when raising your arms up: nothing should fall off, pull, or press, and the length of the sleeve will cover the wrist 4–5 cm lower when the arm is lowered.
- Complete absence of vertical and horizontal folds and creases.
- There should be no excess free volume in the chest area: an allowance of 6 cm is allowed to the chest semicircle. For example, the chest circumference is 100 cm, which means the semicircle will be 50 cm. With an allowance, the back width should be no more than 56 cm. For the front part, the calculation is the same. This rule applies only to those with breasts no larger than 110 cm.
- Protruding pockets are an indicator that the fashionista has acquired a small size.
- A fur coat “from someone else’s shoulder” signals that the purchased copy is too large.
An example of determining the size of a fur coat
The girl's height is 170 cm, chest girth 95, hips 102.If we take the half-circumference of the chest, we get size 48, even 50, but for the hips - 52. This means that the fur coat should be looked at with the marking 52, we go in the direction of increasing it. This will be correct for comfortable operation of the product. Using the table, we determine the marking of the international system L and the European system – 40.
Fur coat size table
Having learned everything about the correct selection of sizes, it would be useful to systematize the information by looking at the table with Russian and international classification.
Differences between coats made from mink, mouton, arctic fox and other furs
Mink products are very beautiful, elegant, and modern. These animals are short-haired; coats made from their fur do not add any additional volume or extra pounds. Medium-pile mouton or astrakhan fur coats look more voluminous than mink, but with the right choice of style they will adorn their owner for many years.
A completely different matter is the fur of a muton, arctic fox, or fox. Products made from them are long-pile, adding kilograms and volume and taking away several centimeters of growth. You should choose short, non-bulky styles, perhaps made from the sheared fur of these animals.
The sizes for any fur coat are standard, unless deviations from the norm are discussed separately in each specific company.
