Afghani pants - an element of oriental clothing style. This is a variant of pants cut with a very low crotch. They really impress with their unusualness, as well as their ease of wear and comfort.
They appeared in India and were exclusively men's clothing. Women began to wear them with the light hand of Mata Hari, the famous dancer and courtesan, who first appeared before the public wearing such pants and with a bare navel. At that time it was a shock. Not everyone understood and accepted the new model. Gradually, she began to win women's favor. Fashionistas began to sew them as home clothes, and since 1900 they have already been seen on city streets all over the world.
In recent years, fashion historians have increasingly paid attention to the Slavic Cossacks, whose traditional clothing was red trousers. But the cut of these pants is very similar to the Afghani.
Nowadays, Afghani pants are worn by men, women and children. There are many varieties of this model.Today we will look at the classic “Afghani”. They are very popular among young people with their desire to stand out from the crowd; for girls doing oriental dancing or yoga; used as pajamas. Their distinctive features:
- They are most often worn in the summer;
- For tailoring, materials are used that are capable of fitting and emphasizing the silhouette;
- Careful selection of the image as a whole is an important detail.
Sewing these trousers yourself is quite easy.
Afghani trousers - pattern, master class
It is better to choose the material for sewing from linen and cotton fabrics. You can choose chintz, staple, knitwear. The content of stretch fibers in the material should be small.
The amount of fabric is chosen based on the width of the future pants. A pattern for Afghani pants is not needed. You just need to prepare a rectangle from the material you like.
The fabric calculation formula is:
- fabric width = trouser length;
- length = width x 3.
The work is performed in the following sequence:
- Lay the material out on a wide table.
- Using a chalk and ruler, divide the rectangle into 3 squares.
- Fold the fabric along the diagonal line of the center square. We get 2 squares and 1 triangle.
- The legs will be the side squares. They need to be folded in half in the direction of the open edges of the triangle, which will be the waist of the pants. We sew the sides of the squares (vertical) to the side of the central square (horizontal).
- The side with the right angle will be the belt. An elastic band is inserted into it. Sometimes the waist is complemented with a cuff.
- You can add pockets - sew them into the waist part of the trousers.
- If desired, you can insert an elastic band into the bottom of the legs.
- Longer – it’s a matter of decoration. Here everyone acts in their own way.
Another option for sewing Afghani trousers is to use a square piece of fabric.The calculation scheme is as follows:
Side of the square = length of the pants. In this case, the pattern of Afghani pants is also not needed:
- Lay out a square of fabric on the table.
- Fold diagonally.
- From a right angle, mark the waist (R=waist/3).
- Trim the corners of the other sides of the triangle to make holes for the legs.
- Sew the sides together.
- Insert the elastic into the waistband and the bottom of the legs.
Afghani oriental trousers are ready. But keep in mind that such a model itself is very bright, extraordinary, and the remaining details of the image should be very harmonious and only highlight its beauty.
As you can see, all you have to do is want it, put in a little effort, and a new, unique and stylish item will appear in your wardrobe.
