Many young mothers wonder how to sew a children's T-shirt on their own?
T-shirt - the simplest sewing product. You don't need to be a super seamstress to sew it. A few skills and basic equipment are enough.
What fabrics are preferable to choose for sewing such a product? Definitely knitwear. This material has several varieties:
- “Footer” knitwear – used in sewing warm sportswear;
- Cotton-knitted fabric “ribana” – used for cuffs and hem design;
- 100% cotton - kulir fabric - a thin material that does not stretch in length, stretches in width, does not wrinkle. Perfect for sewing a children's suit or T-shirt;
- Interlock knitted fabric – smooth on both sides, elastic. Used for sewing T-shirts, T-shirts, pajamas.
Children's T-shirt pattern. Method No. 1
A children's T-shirt can be sewn using a pattern, or without a pattern. Let's consider both methods.
Master class on sewing a T-shirt without using a pattern.
All we need is to choose from among the existing short-sleeved T-shirts that fit well on your child, one whose model you would like to repeat.
The sleeves of the new T-shirt will be one-piece.
- We prepare 2 types of knitted fabric - for the base and finishing;
- We fold the main fabric in half, and the old T-shirt too. Lay the T-shirt over the material and trace with chalk. We get a pattern for one part of a new product;
- To obtain the second part, we place the first new part on the fabric as a pattern and cut it out in the same way, only we make the neck deeper, in accordance with the front neckline of the old T-shirt;
- The main pattern of the product is ready. We put the pieces face to face and fasten one shoulder with an overlocker or stitch;
- Lay out the resulting workpiece on the table and measure the length of the neck;
- We cut a strip of this length from the fabric prepared for finishing; it should be in two folds;
- Place a double strip of fabric on the neckline and stitch with the base;
- Sew together the remaining shoulder seam;
- We do the same with the sleeves: cut out two double stripes, attach them;
- You can sew a double trim on the bottom of the T-shirt. It should be wider than the trim of the neckline and sleeves;
- The last thing is to sew together the side seams of the product. All is ready!
As you can see, sewing is elementary.
T-shirt pattern for a boy. Method No. 2
The pattern for a boy is not particularly different from the pattern for a girl. The difference can only be in the selection of material for sewing. Boys' theme - pirates, airplanes, helicopters; girlish - flowers, dolls.
You can use the patterns presented in our article, or you can take measurements and build a pattern yourself or download it from the Internet.
Master class of Method No. 2:
- We cut out the fabric according to the pattern;
- We put the two parts face to face and stitch together;
- From finishing knitted fabric, preferably in a bright color, cut out pieces 7 centimeters wide and a length equal to the width of the T-shirt sleeves. These will be the cuffs;
- Cut a strip of the same width and length equal to the size of the cutout. This is the neck trim;
- We bend the lower part of the product twice and stitch it;
- Insert and stitch the trim of the neckline and cuffs.
Things can be decorated with appliqués and stripes. This thing is unique. Various models of T-shirts for boys are presented in our article.
Sewing takes very little time, but the new thing will bring a lot of joy to you and your child.
