Cashmere is a fairly expensive material that requires special care. If you want your cashmere sweater to retain its original appearance as when you purchased it, you should follow a few simple rules for caring for it.
How to wash cashmere correctly
Before you start washing, read the product tag and make sure that the item can really be washed by hand or in a washing machine. If the tag says “dry clean only,” use dry cleaning services. Such things will deteriorate when cleaned wet, this will lead to the appearance of pilling on the sweater and deformation.
First you need to find out how not to care for cashmere items. It is strictly forbidden to use ordinary washing powders or powders with bleach. Also, it is not recommended to use fabric softeners and stain removers during washing.
To wash such things, either by hand or in a washing machine, you should use liquid detergents for delicate items, and you can use hair balm as a conditioner.
IMPORTANT! Sudden changes in temperature can negatively affect things; your expensive blouse can stretch or, conversely, decrease in size.
Handwash
To properly wash and avoid damaging delicate fabric, follow these important recommendations:
- Check the sweater for decorations, see if there are rhinestones, beads and sequins on it. If there are any, it is safer to take the item to the dry cleaner. If you have an undecorated sweater, you can start washing the item;
- Turn the sweater inside out so that the outside does not come into contact with the detergent and damage it;
- Choose a delicate detergent (usually the packaging says it is for cashmere or just for delicate care);
- Fill a basin with warm water (30-35 degrees Celsius) and add detergent to the water;
- Place the sweater in the water and make sure it is completely wet. Leave it in the water for 15–20 minutes;
- Remove the jacket from the soapy water and rinse it under warm, clean water. Do not twist it, this may cause deformation;
- Place the sweater on a dry towel and twist it and press so that the towel absorbs all excess moisture;
- Such products must be dried strictly on a horizontal surface.
Important! You cannot dry cashmere products on radiators (other heating devices), with a hairdryer, or in direct sunlight. Also, it is prohibited to dry on dryers and clotheslines. This may cause the sweater to become deformed.
Washing in a washing machine
You can also wash cashmere items in a washing machine, following some rules:
- Before starting the wash, you need to turn the sweater inside out, just like when washing by hand. Then set the machine to the delicate washing mode (Check that the temperature is 40 degrees).The drying mode must be turned off.
- Add baby detergent or cashmere laundry detergent.
- After the machine stops washing, the product will be almost dry, but it would still be better to put it on a dry towel and blot it to absorb excess moisture.
- Dry the sweater strictly on a horizontal surface, avoiding direct sunlight.
You can iron cashmere items, but you should also treat this with caution. It is prohibited to use a hot iron. You can iron it with a warm iron only from the wrong side, otherwise it may become deformed.
By following these simple rules, your wool items will retain their original appearance for a long time. If you wash your clothes less often, then any clothes will retain their beautiful appearance longer.
IMPORTANT! Remember three important rules: cashmere items cannot be rubbed, twisted, and squeezed.
