Fashion trends today are multiplying with incredible speed. Each couturier tries to stand out and offer his own vision of this area of the “clothing” industry. And if in the middle of the last century Coco Chanel dressed women beautifully and femininely, today some clothes often cause horror. The worst thing is that the ideas of high fashion leaked to the masses, and its ardent fans enthusiastically picked up such trends.
Fashion for bad taste - where did it come from?
There is no fire without smoke, and ugly trends also had their preconditions. What served as a kind of trigger for the spread of such a phenomenon?
- Blurring gender boundaries. Unfortunately, many believe that the idealization of the female body and the sexualization of its forms has already served its purpose. "Stop turning it into an object of desire! - shout the followers of feminism. The right to comfortable clothing has the other side of the coin — under disproportionate, voluminous outfits you can easily hide a full or imperfect body, which means you can relax and no longer have to worry about yourself.
- A game of contrasts. Ripped jeans will perfectly emphasize the sexuality of a translucent cambric white blouse, and this cannot be taken away. Designers have long understood that with the help of something rough they can successfully “go out”, offering seemingly unprepossessing, but feminine items of clothing from a rather advantageous angle.
- Desire to express yourself. Since all the beauty has already been proposed and there is nothing more to invent, you need to find another direction for self-realization. Famous couturiers simply found a new “unfilled” niche and are developing it with frantic force. In addition, the fear of being forgotten pushes creators to do the craziest things.
Gradually, the introduction of the desire to “be different” became a trend.
What things can be called ugly?
Those that distort proportions, shorten or lengthen limbs, deliberately make them coarse, large, and repulsive to various parts of the body. Oversized, by the way, is a leader in this context., because this style is capable of changing the parameters of the figure beyond recognition.
Let's look at a few things from the wardrobe that may well be called fashionable, but ugly.
Ugly sneakers
"Champion" on this list. The Balenciaga brand is considered the first to introduce such shoes into fashion.. Since then, “coals” of any brand are most often called Balenciaga.
These are large sneakers with thick, uneven soles and a “kicked” back. The last “touch” was invented in order to to make the foot appear as large as possible. There are many options and models today. “Coals” come in either completely white or colored, with laces or Velcro.Their shape and “size” always remain unchanged.
The shoes are designed for small feet. Large size will make the foot look like a flipper, and probably no young lady would allow such extreme behavior. These shoes can be worn with colored socks, cropped or rolled up jeans, a mid-calf coat, a casual flared dress, or many other things.
Coat or raincoat
Huge size outerwear, under which there is enough space for three or four people. What is noteworthy - the sleeves and fit in the shoulders of such a coat are always done as needed, but all other elements can be called dimensionless. Such a thing can be made of cashmere or drape; you can often see a young lady in a huge quilted coat on the streets of New York in winter.
It is recommended to wear it with casual clothes of a semi-fitting style and classic or similar shoes.
Ripped jeans
For many, this is a wardrobe must-have. There is probably not a single young lady who would refuse a stylish thing with holes in the knees or around the perimeter. In an effort to be fashionable, such a trend sometimes looks absurd. Multiple cuts, fringe sticking out from every ragged edge - it's not just stupid, it looks terrible. Women over 40 are especially surprised by this, because “at that age” you can no longer afford such clothes.
It is recommended to wear ripped jeans with feminine wardrobe items or fashionable casual items.. For example, they look great with a chiffon blouse, a white T-shirt with a print, and pumps. Grunge elements can work well - martin boots, a leather jacket. In some cases, a cocoon coat, sweatshirt, and beautiful ankle boots will “play a successful violin.”
You can’t mix ripped jeans with the same clothes, sloppy details, or cheap wardrobe items.
Crocs
“Wide paws” are popular with a certain category of fashionistas. At first it was summer beachwear, today everyday looks are created with Crocs - both men's and women's.
The shoes are quite comfortable, very light, but the foot in them looks large and ugly. But who can be surprised by this today?
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the question of whether to wear Crocs with socks or not. Well, some people cannot resist the desire for fashion, so colored underwear with bright prints often “accompanies” these shoes.
Waist bag
In Russia, this thing was considered practical back in the 90s. In those days, in a country of resellers and sellers, such an accessory was a must-have item on the market. Yes, and fashionistas attached it to their jeans. Today, a belt bag is not only an addition to a sports ensemble. It is worn with classic clothes in a casual look. And no one is embarrassed by the inappropriateness of this element.
To fit (there is no other way to call it) a bag on a belt on top of a jacket or coat - this still needs to be thought out. Although we can give it its due - the latest decorative hip bags proposed by the couturier have little in common with sports ones.
UGG boots with rhinestones
Soft shapeless shoes I found my fans. For many years now, Ugg boots have been present in the wardrobes of fashionistas who love winter comfort. Decorated with glass, they go well in combination with skinny jeans, leggings, and leggings. They manage to mix them with leather and fur outerwear. These shoes have become so firmly established in our lives that no one is surprised if they see a glamorous lady with a dog wearing UGG boots.
Meanwhile, judging by surveys of men, they consider such shoes disgustingly untempting. Something to think about.
Cocoon coat
Unlike the “tent” model, this outerwear has a shape. Although the outline of the figure is not visible underneath. Wide at the waist, it tapers slightly towards the bottom. A paradise for overweight young ladies, and even thin ones look more voluminous in such a coat.
It is recommended to wear a cocoon with elegant stiletto heels. Such “neighbors” as skinny jeans and low-top sneakers are allowed. In principle, with a cocoon you get a fashionable casual look. They just won't be able to seduce anyone.
Shoes-hooves
Scary shoes that they tried to introduce into everyday life. These shoes/boots/boots - not only ugly, but also a very harmful “trend”. You can probably wear your hooves only in “spot” cases, because constant stress on your toes can play a cruel joke on your health.
You can combine these shoes with anything, because you still won’t be able to withstand the “ballerina gait” for long.
Giant Platform Shoes
THIS did not receive widespread love, but in the early 2000s, during the existence of emo and other youth trends, some of them used such shoes in their equipment. Later, the giant platform “died”, and attempts to restore its rights today have so far been crowned with success only on the podium.
The whole point is that modern people most often value the convenience of clothes and shoes, and wearing such gigantism does not imply comfort.
Grandma's dress
Meaning imitation of real old lady clothes. Long, closed, shapeless dark dresses with small flowers, striped shirts, wide trousers - all these things seemed to have been found at the bottom of grandma's chest.
By the way, this trend in fashion has found its followers. Fully covered outfits in brown colors did not leave the catwalk for a while. Today the fashion is for bright clothes, but couturiers do not give up hope of returning interesting trends to their collections.
Wedge Sneakers
Sports shoes with Velcro on a platform that increases from toe to heel, has very strange functions. This is like a sports pair, but how to wear wedges with a tracksuit? And with jeans or a skirt, these sneakers look miserable and collective farm...
Afghani pants
Trousers with a flare were very popular at one time. Today you can probably find these only in the outback of Russia, and at stylized events. Pants belong to the oriental wardrobe, but our fashionistas have turned them into disco clothes.
“Low cut” can be seen not only in knitted pants, but also in models made of other materials. Jeans with a similar cut are worn by hipsters.
Birkenstocks
Shoes from a men's wardrobe, in which they also looked “not very good.” Although Birkenstocks cannot be blamed for their lack of comfort.. A branded pair must have an anatomically correct insole and sole, and the upper fits tightly.
“Footprint in the sand” - this is also the name for the Birkenstock last. It is believed that such shoes will not let your feet get tired. It is recommended to combine it with loose cotton or linen clothing.
It is important not what to wear, but what to wear with it!
Undoubtedly! For example:
- A belt bag will look ugly over a cashmere coat, but with a tracksuit it will look very acceptable and cute!
- Afghani pants on Red Square will be scorned by others, but in India with a long shirt they will be well received.
- Crocs will go well with beachwear on the seashore, chunky sneakers on a treadmill or a picnic in the forest, Birkenstocks on a walk in a hot city.
Every thing should have its place. It’s just that modern couturiers are so eclectic that they sometimes reach the point of absurdity. And if they have a mess in their heads, then we won’t allow ourselves to be turned into a herd of sheep, right?
In the end, ugly fashion is a subjective trend. Sometime in the past, Marlene Dietrich also wore a pantsuit for the first time, and most, if not all, thought it was terrible. Today, such clothes are an obligatory part of a woman’s wardrobe, and no one can call them ugly.
Perhaps someday our descendants will also consider hooves or chunky sneakers very beautiful. Wait and see.
I don’t completely agree with the shoes except the shoes
I don’t agree about gender stereotypes, now society is developing, and there are no stereotypes about what a woman should wear and what not. It’s the same for men. Many things from this article look quite beautiful and acceptable (except for hoof shoes, pants afghani and ug and with rhinestones) But at the same time, the person decides whether to wear these things or not.
I was just shocked by the very first lines of this article about gender stereotypes. It goes without saying that comfortable, comfortable clothes hinder self-development. Laziness or self-hatred or apathy towards life, which does not allow you to change for the better, is a problem of the psyche, not of clothing. There are just a ton of people I know personally who may all be in perfect shape but often wear loose clothing purely out of convenience. Forgive me for being harsh, but this point made such an impression on me (and not the best) that I simply could not remain silent.
Nowadays, it’s very stupid to judge someone for their appearance, everyone wears whatever their heart desires, I really like the high platform and cocoon coat, I don’t know what to find fault with here.
There is no fire without smoke?♀️
Where do they get such literate people?
Oh my God! Probably the author is an insecure grandmother!!! Things at the beginning are very stylish if you combine them! Horror, not an article!
Galoshes are terrible, no matter what you call them, they’re ugly and whatever, country or country slippers, it’s better to wear elegant sandals.
Pants where they shit, sorry, are also a complete nightmare, jeans with holes - if a little torn, that’s fine.
