What is a leotard?

Trico is a polysemantic word. This is at the same time a fabric for underwear and dresses, a village in France and several types of clothing. Moreover, some things are associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, while others are associated with a healthy lifestyle.

What is a leotard?

There are 3 main meanings:

• Long pants made of wool or knitwear. A type of underpants.
• A very tight-fitting suit made from a material with increased elasticity. There is a sports, stage and insulating subtype.
• Underwear. Originally a type of women's pantaloons. Today the lower part can be connected to the upper. The gender division has also disappeared: such things are also produced for men.

Also, leotard is the name of a special material, dense, wear-resistant and not afraid of strong stretching. Type of thread weaving: patterned. The name comes from the word “knitted”. The fabric was first woven before our era, presumably in the 2nd–3rd century.

Important! There is a knitted subtype of leotard fabric.

Types and description of models

1. Shortened model. A “one-piece” suit that fits the body as closely as possible, but the legs and sleeves are shorter than the standard.An example of such a thing is the form in Greco-Roman wrestling (it looks like bicycle shorts and a T-shirt connected to each other).
2. Women's gymnastic leotard. Second name: gymnastic leotard. This is a one-piece swimsuit with or without long sleeves. Worn by gymnasts, dancers, some circus performers (for example, acrobats) and theater actors.
3. Model with heel cutout. Tight-fitting trousers for ballerinas and dancers. It differs from other modifications in the heel cutout. Due to this shape, pointe shoes are easy to put on.
4. Men's gymnastic leotard. Long trousers connected to a T-shirt. The trouser part ends with “brakes”.
5. Men's tights. In its original meaning: tight-fitting pants that fit so tightly that tense muscles and other anatomical features of the body are visible. In a broad sense: any sweatpants.
6. Women's tights. The same as the previous version, but this clothing is intended for a different audience (women).
7. Swimsuit. Uniform of professional swimmers. One-piece suit with or without a zipper (located in the middle of the sternum). Sometimes it is additionally connected to the hood (also tight-fitting).

What is it for?

Professional athletes feel as comfortable as possible in it. It is also valued for its strong fit and light weight. These characteristics are especially in demand in those sports that require high speed and endurance.. Runners and swimmers, in addition, also like the effect of a streamlined figure: air and water do not find obstacles when a diving or running person enters them. This helps increase movement speed.

Insulated models are widely used among fishermen, hunters and people who, due to the specifics of their profession or hobbies, often spend a long time in the fresh air. They are very convenient when the temperature is constantly changing. They will be comfortable in a tent both in the evening, when there is no severe cold yet, and in the early morning, when the most intense frosts occur.

Swimming tights are an indispensable item for professional swimmers, as well as diving and surfing enthusiasts. Product perfectly protects the skin, does not become heavier when wet and ensures timely removal of sweat. A very harmful layer of moisture is not created in the space between clothing and the body.
