Moschino is great as always! Another collection in a shocking style with a spicy touch of horror attracted the attention of the whole world. I've been following designer Jeremy Scott for a long time, and he put on such an amazing show in June 2019 that I can't help but tell you!
How it was
Let me start by saying that Jeremy Scott is very prolific with creative ideas., he creates five collections a year for the Italian fashion house and two for his brand, which regularly takes part in New York Fashion Week. His extravagant finds are in keeping with Moschino traditions and global trends.
Jeremy Scott has been interested in fashion since childhood, reading Vogue magazine during school breaks instead of comics. His first collection was... Paper medical gowns! The designer immediately showed unconventional thinking, which attracted attention to him.
The Moschino Resort 2020 collection was shown in an appropriate setting, taking us from the hot June to the autumn Halloween. The screening took place at the Universal Studios pavilion in Los Angeles. Gothic, childhood fears, memories of the best action-packed films - everything was mixed in an enchanting cocktail of images.
Remembering childhood fears
Like a Halloween carnival, Moschino brought down a line of familiar villains and monsters down the runway. Scott still remains a man very rich in inventions, so his imagination presented us with a real kaleidoscope of neon, bright prints and volume, seasoned with notorious evil spirits.
The models clearly referred us to the movie “The Shining”: creepy-looking twins and a juicy inscription on the dress “Redrum”. A blonde in a white dress, hugged by a giant black arm, hinted at “King Kong.” There were also some classics of the genre: Dracula, clowns, witches, ghosts, pumpkins, mummies and devils.
Everyone was scared
The atmosphere of a horror movie turned out to be “at its best”! I immediately remember witches’ hats, characteristic horns, ghostly drawings, rough seams of Frankenstein’s monster and cobwebs, like a haze wrapping the show in fog on the edge of reality. Numerous critics agreed that the creepiest image was the model depicting the scarecrow. A monster with a bag on his head, with straw sticking out over his shoulders, interrupted his path along the catwalk and ominously stared at the guests... You get goosebumps even if you just watch the video of this show!
Of course, there was also a very frivolous tulle dress, decorated with a ghost pattern. The costume was completed with a black cap and snow-white boots. Overall it turned out not scary, but cute.
The final chord was the bride’s chic dress, which refers us to the legendary cartoon “Corpse Bride”. Let me remind you that the author of the masterpiece is the inimitable Tim Burton.
Trend
It is difficult to single out just one trend in the collection. The result was a fusion of shocking, fantasy and art. These are not outfits for every day, they are more reminiscent of a collection of costumes for a carnival, but made by the hand of a master, and not sewn on the knee the night before the event. Each image is unique!
I would like to highlight several interesting points from the design findings:
- Layered skirts. They looked larger than the models themselves, but they inspired us to experiment!
- Pointed hats with wide brims. If you remove the cone, then we can talk about the return to fashion of wide-brimmed hats that suit many face types.
- Themed bags in the form of a black cat's head or a pumpkin are suitable for appropriate parties or for lovers of shocking.
If you look at Moschino’s cruise collections, in general you can identify a couple of trends:
- neon: now many fashion houses are playing with it from all sides;
- there is a clear emphasis on the waist, silhouettes are no longer shapeless.
Hollywood cinema has long been a source of significant inspiration for the designer. It’s even a little surprising that these outfits didn’t appear earlier!
Jeremy Scott is loved by many celebrities: Keri Hilson, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Lindsay Lohan, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and many other famous personalities!
It was an amazing, atmospheric show! It caused a lot of discussion in the most elite circles of fashion. A fantastic fusion of creativity and creativity on a gothic background attracts attention and makes you watch the fashion show to the end, enjoying every detail.
