How to sew an elastic band to a skirt instead of a belt

• Thick black ribbon no more than 80 cm long and 8 cm wide.

How to sew an elastic band by hand

It is much more difficult to sew on an elastic band without a machine, because in this case neither the quality nor the appearance should suffer. This is a more labor-intensive process. The braid must be kept taut at all times and be careful not to overtighten. If you do not adhere to all these points, you will not be able to put on the product, or it will fall off.

Necessary materials

• Threads according to the color of the fabric.
• Scissors.
• Elastic tape.
• Tailor's carnations.

Progress

• Treat the fabric to prevent it from fraying. Gather the material and secure with nails.
• Prepare an elastic band a couple of centimeters less than the waist. Sew the edges of the ribbon to the base of the skirt.
• Stretch the ribbons, aligning the edges of the fabric, and pin in four places.
• Slowly sew the elastic with a needle-forward stitch using neat stitches.
• Go through it again, but insert the needle into the spaces between the finished stitches. As a result, you will have a line.

How to sew elastic tape on a sewing machine

An ideal elastic band will only look good on some skirt models. Make it long or doll style with ruffles that will add a touch of romance to the look.

Materials for work

• The elastic band is 5–7 cm wide, the length depends on the waist size.
• Threads in the color of the product.
• Scissors.
• Pins.
• Sewing machine.

Progress

All preparatory work must be done before sewing on the ribbon. Namely: cut the fabric to the required size and indicate the locations of the grooves.

• Place the tape on top of the fabric so that it is on the right side.
• Using pins, secure the tape in four places on the prepared item.
• Make sure that the elastic is slightly stretched. There should be a little more fabric underneath, otherwise the skirt will slide down.
• Using a machine we sew the finished workpiece.Be sure to make sure the ends of the tape meet.

IMPORTANT! If you have problems attaching the ribbon (the machine skips stitches or the thread keeps breaking), make sure it is set correctly.

• Watch the folds of the fabric, they should be evenly gathered. If this is not the case for you, fasten the ribbon more often and do the same with the top of the skirt. As you work, constantly make sure that the marks match.

Useful tips

• During the sewing process of the elastic band try not to tear the rubber veins that are inside the tape with a needle. This will cause deformation and rupture. The service life of such a product will be much shorter.
• Try to pass the needle between the rubber veins of the braid.
• Damage can be partially avoided by sewing on the elastic using a zigzag stitch.. It is perfect for simple elastic bands and similar threads.
• It is worth constantly ensuring that the tape is stretched evenly around the entire circumference. Otherwise, it may cause the gathered fabric to become uneven.
