Our mothers were kept strictly! Their mothers and grandmothers made sure that no traditional norms were violated. And they existed for all occasions. You couldn’t even wear a skirt the way you wanted, but only the way it was supposed to be worn. Only through the legs!
Today, many ladies consider themselves people of progressive views and talk condescendingly about prejudices and relics. And the skirt is most often still worn over the legs! This is especially strictly followed by unmarried girls and women for whom marriage is the main goal in life.
Let's figure out why this is so important to them. And does it even matter how you put on a skirt?
What do the signs say?
Women's clothing in ancient times was completely subject to signs and existing orders. Color, length, embroidery patterns - everything had to comply with accepted canons.
The process of putting a skirt or dress on a girl also had a special meaning. This should have only been done over the head.. This is what “scared” the signs of those who broke the rules and pulled these clothes over their legs.
- An unmarried girl will never find a husband! She will remain lonely. It was believed that dark energy and evil forces would in every possible way scare away males from unmarried girls wearing a skirt over their legs.
- And if a married woman does this, then soon her husband will begin to cheat on her.
REFERENCE! It was believed that you could only take off your skirt over your head!
Why did this rule arise?
Of course, today no one can give a definite answer about the reasons for this habit. However, some explanations were still found.
From the point of view of ancient beliefs
Clothing was perceived by our ancestors as protection from the dangers of the surrounding world, in which much was unknown and incomprehensible to them. Remember, for example, embroidered patterns filled with meaning, or various amulets that were attached to things.
You should also put on various things in such a way as not to destroy this protection. Dresses, skirts, sundresses were pulled over the head, joining hands above the head. And then, straightening the fabric, they passed it along the sides, as if creating a protective bell or armor around themselves.
REFERENCE! In the past, only side seams were allowed on clothing. It was believed that everything that had “evil” energy rolled down the side seams without causing harm to the person.
From a practical point of view
There is another opinion regarding this belief. Girls used to wear several skirts. Due to the lack of underwear, warm clothes, etc., I had to put a few more under my overskirt. And since it was more convenient to put on several long wide skirts over the head, this sign was born.
What is the right way today?
How should a modern woman behave? Surely what seems comfortable and right to her!
If you're worried about scaring off a good groom with the way you wear your skirt, keep it traditional! But keep in mind that the strictest adherence to all signs is not a guarantee of a happy marriage.
And if it’s more convenient for you to pull your clothes over your legs, why not?
