Denim skirt pattern

Every woman's wardrobe must have several skirts. But for many fashionistas, the most beloved and popular is still the denim skirt.

But it is not always possible to find a suitable model. But you can sew a denim skirt with your own hands. We'll tell you how to do this.

Building a pattern

The success of the work will depend on an accurate and correctly constructed pattern. It is carried out according to individual measurements.

What measurements will you need?

To achieve a good fit of the product on your figure, you need to take the following measurements:

• waist and hip circumferences,
• length from the waist to the floor and the estimated bottom in front, side and back.

ATTENTION! Measurements are taken on a naked figure. The measuring tape should not be stretched or sagging. A belt is tied at the waist to ensure accurate measurements.

We record all measurements in centimeters.

• To find the waist line, press the bent arm at the elbow towards the body. Where the elbow ends is where the waist ends. The tape should run horizontally.
• To measure hip circumference, place the tape horizontally slightly below the waist.. We lower it to the widest point in order to pass through the closed tape along the entire length of the skirt.
• To accurately measure length, it is better to use this method. The desired front length is 50. The distance from the waist line to the floor in the front is 103. The difference between measurements is: 103-50=43. The length of the sections of the structure is set as follows: front - 103-43=60. Side: 105-43=62, back - 103-43=60. In the example, the difference in length measurements is 2 cm. This is how much the side length rises above the midpoints of the front and back panels of the skirt.

IMPORTANT! The girths for constructing the drawing are divided in half, since we are building only half of the part.

The basis for constructing a classic denim skirt

To work, you can take a ready-made drawing of the base of the skirt and adjust it to your size.

You can also prepare the base yourself. To do this, we will build a mesh and then a drawing on it.

ATTENTION! When constructing a grid, all lines must be strictly perpendicular.

 

• We start from point A, put the length of the product down and get point D (front line).
• In width we measure PB (half hip circumference) plus 1 cm for fit. We get point B (waist line).
• Now, knowing the length and width, we need to construct a rectangle and get point B.
• Location of darts. From the points on the hip line we measure 1/6 Pb plus 1 cm. We divide the remaining segment in half and get a side cut.
• Calculation of darts. From Pb we subtract Pt. The side dart is equal to half of the total amount. The back dart is equal to ½ the side dart plus 1 cm.
• On the drawing we set aside 2 cm from the point of intersection of the line of the back dart with the waist line to the right and 3 cm to the left.
• We make the side dart in the same way: 3 cm to the right and 5 cm to the left. Connect the dots.

IMPORTANT! When building the base, seams are not taken into account; do not forget this when cutting.

Modeling a denim skirt

When we have a basic drawing (base), we can model straight, tapered, slightly flared products.

• We narrow the side seams by 2 cm and connect the new points with the hip line.
• On the back seam we will make an allowance for a vent 11 cm long and 3.5 cm wide.
• Let's mark the yoke line on the back panel.
• We cut the back dart to the yoke line, from the side seam we cut along the yoke line, close the waist dart, it goes into the yoke line.
• We mark a place for the pocket.
• On the front panel we make an allowance for the fastener 15 cm long and 4.5 cm wide.
• We transfer the undercut to the side seam.
• We outline a pocket, it can be just for decoration (without burlap).

Denim skirt pattern for girls

For sewing, you can take not only new fabric, but also old jeans. They are combined with various materials: knitwear, cotton, silk, lace and so on. Skirts can be sewn either with a belt or with an elastic band.

For girls, we also draw a basic pattern and, after changing it a little, we get an A-line skirt.

REFERENCE. The style of the skirt is suitable for every figure. The bottom line in them is extended to the depth of the dart. The width of the skirt depends on the difference between the waist and hips.

Let's model an A-line children's skirt.

• On the front panel of the base base, cut along a vertical line from the end of the dart to the line.
• We close the dart, the skirt will expand along the bottom line.
• We do the same with the rear panel.

ATTENTION! The bottom of the skirt is widened by the same distance on both the front and back panels.

Useful tips for sewing a denim skirt

• Make a pattern before purchasing fabric. It will be easier for you to calculate how much material you will need for the skirt.
• Don’t rush to cut, the fabric needs to be washed, dried and ironed.
• For a sewing machine, take needles No. 100 or special denim needles No. 80–100. These needles have a very thin point. They are wear-resistant.
• Buy a quality clasp. Then you won't have to change the zipper on your skirt often.
• Before sewing, thick sections of seams should be thoroughly steamed through a damp material. Then the fabric will soften and become thinner. But still You need to sew at low speeds, but it’s better to scroll these places manually.
• When moving from a thick section to a thin section, place fabric or cardboard under the foot so that the foot has support when sewing.
• For stitching you will need decorative thread. They fill it from above. The bobbin uses reinforced thread No. 45.
