Plaid

Perhaps the best rest after a hard day at work is a mug of hot tea, a good book and a soft, cozy blanket. This kind of leisure time is especially good when the weather outside is bad. One of its main attributes is a plaid - a kind of large scarf or shawl. However, it is not used as clothing, on the contrary, it is ideal as a bedspread to make the bed or a blanket for daytime sleep.

In the classic version, it is a checkered woolen fabric with fringe, but modern models are full of a variety of colors.

Story

The appearance of the word “plaid” is not accidental. In the old days, the Scots came up with a cape that kept them warm during military campaigns during the day (they covered their shoulders and back), and at night it served as a blanket for the glorious warriors, protecting them from frost and piercing winds. They gave it a suitable name - “plaide”. Translated into Russian it sounds like “blanket”.

It is noteworthy that at that time the blanket was made from high-quality, exclusively sheep wool. The choice of colors for this cape was interesting. For example, painted in all the colors of the rainbow, only a king could wear it; six shades on the canvas indicated that the owner of the cape belonged to the Druids (ancient Celtic priests), five spoke of the person’s noble origin, and four indicated that he was a commoner.

By the way! The famous kilt appeared thanks to the plaid. Over time, only the lower part of the cape on the shoulders remained. Scottish men wrapped it around their waists.

Peculiarities

It is difficult to imagine modern life without such ordinary things as a blanket. They are used as a cover at home, in cafes and in offices, taken with them on a picnic or on long car trips, and used as a bedspread and sofa cover. This popularity is not difficult to explain: unlike any other bedding, a blanket does not take up much space, it can be neatly rolled up and put in a bag. Plus, it's easy to wash and dry, doesn't require a duvet cover, and still keeps you warm.

The textile industry today does not stand still, and therefore the materials from which blankets are made are also being improved. If previously such products were only made of wool, which means they “pricked” the skin, stretched and could tear from a small puff, now it is more than possible to find synthetic products on store shelves.

By the way, to say that the quality of a blanket made from artificial fabric will be poor is at least incorrect. Modern synthetic materials are hypoallergenic, they last for many years and are easy to care for. Most often, blankets are made from microfiber, polyester, acrylic, and faux fur.

However, the most practical is considered to be a product made from mixed fabric, which contains natural and artificial components. Thanks to this, the blanket turns out to be moderately warm, but at the same time it does not lose color and shape.

Kinds

Interestingly, blankets differ not only in the material from which they are sewn. Size is another criterion by which these products can be divided into several groups. So, the following options are available:
