What fabric to choose, is it possible to have different quality

For such a bedspread, it is not necessary to use a special patchwork fabric; any material you like is quite suitable. Maybe you can find suitable fabric at home - leftover material from sewing clothes or decorations. Just don’t use fabrics that are too old.

Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages:

  1. Cotton is one of the cheapest options, which is great for beginner craftswomen. You can use it to sew bed linen and potholders for the kitchen, curtains and chair covers.
  2. Linen is well suited for lining the product. It is very strong, it is convenient to sew things from it, its only drawback is that this material wrinkles a lot.
  3. Denim material is perfect for a blanket made from squares and other interior decorations. Looks great with chintz.
  4. A chintz blanket will look very beautiful, but it is not recommended for beginners to start with it.

Instructions

First, think about how you would like to make the bedspread and what colors you will choose. When choosing colors, it is advisable to choose colors that will harmoniously fit into the interior. Draw what you have planned on a piece of paper. It is convenient to make a sketch in a checkered notebook.

After that, lay out the squares the way you plan to sew them.

Note! All material must be washed, dried and ironed in advance. We sew the square together with one thread.

After this, each square is sewn on a machine. Next we make the lining. The lining is placed on a hard surface with the wrong side up, and a sealant is applied on top. Level over the entire surface. The piece of rags is placed on top, face up. All edges are pinned.

After this, you need to sew the edges and quilt each square. If you sew on a machine, you can use a figured stitch, for example large zigzags. Trim the edges with tape.

Insulation options

A scrap quilt has three main parts - a beautiful scrap top, a filling and a lining. You can make a bedspread without filler.

without filler

Synthetic winterizer is often used as a filler. A significant advantage is that the material does not shrink after washing. This means that after many washes the blanket will remain just as airy. One of the disadvantages of the filler is that it is artificially created. That is why such a blanket is not recommended for a child.

But you can create a blanket from squares entirely from natural material.Instead of padding polyester, you can use natural fillers - natural cotton insulation, which is very light. It is light in color and 2-3 mm thick, does not crumble, which is also a big advantage.

Note! Cotton filling may shrink slightly during washing.

Before using it, it is advisable to soak it for several hours and dry it.

You can also use wool filling, which is 100% natural.
