What can you make from old towels?

Often, old towels that are no longer used because they have lost their appearance are simply thrown away. But don't rush and throw them in the trash. You can, with a little effort, give them a second life. Read on to find out how to do this.

Ideas for using old towels

Towels - how many of them were thrown away in each family. After all, this thing quickly becomes unusable, no matter where it is used - in the kitchen or in the bathroom. But before you throw something else in the trash, it’s worth thinking about whether there is any way to give things a second life. Here's what you can do:

  • for a child - a bib or a soft toy;
  • for an adult - slippers, a robe or negligee after a shower;
  • for indoors – potholders, rugs;
  • for kitchen and home work - rags, mop attachments, napkins, potholders.

Bath mat

rugA towel rug can be made in many ways. For example, you can take plain ones, or you can take different colors and cut them lengthwise into pieces of the same width.For convenience, flaps of the same color can be sewn from the end. This will create long stripes. After this, tie a braid from the strips. The braid is laid out either in a circle or in an oval shape. When laying out from the wrong side, it is necessary to grab with a needle and thread so as to fix the adjacent rings.

The second version of the mat will require a plastic mesh with a small cell pitch. After this, the towels are cut into narrow strips. Since the rug will have a terry texture, the length of the strips should be twice as long as the height of the terry part of the finished product. Once the strips are cut, they should be tied evenly around the mesh cells.

House slippers

slippersHomemade slippers are quite easy to make. For this you will need not only old towels, but also old rubber slippers.. After this, you need to carefully sheathe the rubber slippers with parts cut to the required sizes. The seams are done by hand and with special care so that the work looks neat. To make the slippers softer, you can lay a thin layer of either batting or foam rubber between the sole and the sewn insole.

Mop brush

mopAn old, especially worn towel can be used as a mop attachment. And in order to reliably fix the structure, you will need to fasten with buttons.

Before cutting out the nozzle, you should spread a towel on the floor, place a mop on top of it, and only then cut out the desired piece. To fix it, you should immediately cut narrow rectangular strips along the edges on one side and the other as close to the end parts as possible. These will be the fasteners. They need to be done towards the edges so that free hanging edges do not form. Otherwise they will interfere with washing.

Small napkins for anything

incisionNapkins are always needed around the house. They may be needed to wipe off dust or wash windows. In the kitchen, this is generally an irreplaceable thing - wipe off the table, blot up any spills - all this can be done quickly with the help of napkins.

To make napkins you need just cut out rectangles of convenient size and finish the edges with an overlockerto prevent it from falling out.

Potholders

An oven mitt can also be made from old towels. To do this, just draw a pattern approximately the size of your palm. On the underside of the potholder, where the palm will be, several layers of fabric should be made to ensure the proper level of thermal insulation.

Important! When making a pattern, you need to draw it significantly larger than the size of your hand, as this will ensure ease of use and ease of gripping hot handles.

Interior pillows

pillowThey can be made from beautiful towels that are no longer used.. To do this, cut out the pieces that are best preserved. This is necessary to ensure that the product is visually beautiful. And sew them into a rectangular pillow. You can use the patchwork style, or, if the condition of the towels allows, you can cut out four large quadrangles and sew them together to form the front panel of the pillow. The back can be made plain.
