The problem of keeping kitchen towels in proper condition is familiar to every housewife. It is impossible to ensure that they are always in pristine condition. However, with the help of our tips, you can bring textiles to a clean and tidy state, even if several washes with the best powders and bleaches did not give the desired result. How to get a white towel from a stained gray cotton rag using only vegetable oil and other home remedies, read on.
Is it possible to do this?
Even new textiles quickly become covered with a whole network of various stains: there are greasy, coffee, and fruit and berry stains that are difficult to get rid of. Of course, you can throw away dirty towels and replace them with new ones, but this is uneconomical and irrational. The problem must be solved in a different, more productive way.
Turning to our grandmother's methods, which have worked for decades, we found an effective method: wash towels with sunflower oil, washing powder and/or bleach. For many women who tried it, this was a panacea, and now they actively recommend the proven method to other housewives.
Its use does not require expensive investments and devices. Everything is extremely simple: kitchen towels remove stains within hours using home remedies, a bucket or a large pan. Do not be afraid that fatty oil will only worsen the problem. It is this that will soften the old dirt that numerous washings with powder could not remove. All that remains is to get rid of the soft crust on the surface of the towel by washing and rinsing it.
Ways to use the oil
“Wash off” in the case of sunflower oil is means soaking kitchen textiles in very high temperature water, to which a special solution of oil, washing powder and/or bleach has been added. Vegetable oil does not have a washing effect, but it can soften dirty stains and neutralize the aggressive effect of bleach on fibers.
The oil will affect not only the problem area, but also the entire fabric structure as a whole, ridding it of invisible residues. This will make the surface of the towel clean and white.
Washing recipe with oil
The method in question is very simple, but quite effective. For him you will need 1 spoon of sunflower oil and half a glass of any washing powder. The components are indicated for 5 liters of water.
Step by step recipe:
- in an enamel pan or bucket, bring the required volume of water to a boil;
- when boiling, remove it from the heat, add the powder, mix well until completely dissolved;
- then add oil to the slightly cooled solution (at least 90-80 degrees) and mix again;
- place dry soiled towels in water. To do this, you should use a wooden or silicone spatula: You should not immerse your hand in water at such a high temperature.;
- keep the laundry in the resulting solution for several hours, and if the procedure is carried out in the evening - until the morning;
- After the specified time, rinse the kitchen textiles in high-temperature water to remove stains that have become soft, and then rinse thoroughly again in warm water.
Oil and bleach bleaching method
Turning to it, for a 5-liter volume of water you need to take the following components:
- vegetable oil and dry bleach - two tablespoons each;
- washing powder - a glass or a quarter less.
All components are diluted in water similar to the method described above. Dry kitchen linen is soaked for several hours and then washed in a machine.. It is not necessary to wash towels for a long time; half an hour and rinsing with an additional cycle may be enough. Using this recipe whitens towels even with stubborn stains.
Important! This method perfectly saves colored towels: the fabric becomes clean, and the oil does not allow the bleach to have an aggressive effect on the printed pattern.
Bleach with oil and vinegar
If you need to tidy up not only towels, but also tablecloths, and boiling is not your method, then remove stains and refresh textiles using the same ingredients as in previous recipes, adding vinegar.
For 5 liters of water you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon each of vinegar essence, bleach and sunflower oil;
- a quarter cup of washing powder.
For a large batch, it is better to take a 2-3-fold increase in the components of the solution, not forgetting to increase the volume of water. All manipulations are carried out in the same way as in the method described above, but the soaking time should be increased to half a day, and it is best not to touch it all night. After the time has passed, use machine wash and be sure to rinse with an additional cycle.
Important! This refreshes table linen; this method is also good for terry towels from the bathroom.
How to bleach already washed towels with oil?
Nothing complicated here either. Dried towels are placed in water with dissolved components, kept there for about half a day, then rinsed thoroughly.
To prepare a detergent, you need to take a tablespoon of sunflower oil and bleach, add half a glass of washing powder, any cheap one, dissolve all the ingredients in 5 liters of water. If it is more convenient to work with 10 liters, double the number of components.
What should you pay attention to? Adviсe
- Be sure to first completely dissolve the powder and bleach in boiling water and only then add sunflower oil. If this order is not followed, the dissolution process will be slowed down by the formation of an oily film on the surface of the solution. The effectiveness of the components will be reduced, and more rinses will be required.
- When working with vinegar, avoid replacing bleach with baking soda.. Soda slaked with vinegar will lose its bleaching properties and will strongly foam the entire solution, which will increase in volume and pour out of the pan.
- If you do not achieve the desired effect the first time, you should repeat the procedure. Heavily soiled kitchen and table linen, washed using the above recipes, can become white and fresh only after 2-3 treatments.
- Only dry towels should be treated. If you put wet textiles into the solution, the moisture between the fibers will not allow the dirt to be effectively broken down. Re-processing of dry fabric will be required.
- For a prolonged action of the solution, it is recommended to soak the towels in a bucket or pan, covered with a lid, and on top of it with a blanket or rug.
- These methods can also be used for other types of textiles: they can be used to clean underwear and bed linen, cotton and linen, as well as baby diapers, undershirts, rompers and caps.
- You should not have high hopes for cleaning synthetic fabrics in this way. Vegetable oil works great as a base solution for cleaning natural fibers, it may not work on artificial fabric. Moreover, the temperature of the solution is initially very high, which is contraindicated for many synthetic components.
