Terry fabric is always popular in the production of bath towels. However, during operation, this material often loses its original splendor and becomes rough and unpleasant to the touch. In order for terry towels to retain their fluffy structure for a long time and remain pleasant to the body, it is necessary to follow a number of important rules. They relate to the care of this type of textile.
Rules for washing terry towels
Let's consider the main stages and important points of washing bath products. This will allow the products to be washed correctly.
Water mode and temperature
Washing terry towels requires the most delicate approach. The result also depends on what kind of water housewives use.
Before hand washing, it is recommended to pre-soak them for half an hour in warm water, adding a little salt or soda to it (1-2 tablespoons per basin).
After the specified time has passed, wash the towels with beating movements. It is not recommended to strongly rub the fabric, twist or wring it. This will cause the fibers of the material to “stick” together, causing the product to become rough and lose its airiness.
IMPORTANT! The fibers of terry cloth absorb detergents well, so it is recommended to carry out at least three rinses.
To machine wash terry towels, you must choose a standard or delicate cycle with low water temperature (40–60 C). It is not recommended to overload the machine drum. With enough free space, the fabric will remain fluffy and the detergent will be properly rinsed out of the fibers.
Using detergents
An important rule for caring for terry fabric is the correct choice of detergents. Thus, it is strictly not recommended to use bulk washing powders and conditioners. They have a negative effect on the fabric and are difficult to wash out of the fibers. In this case, it is better to opt for liquid washing powder, delicate gel or other gentle product with a liquid consistency.
IMPORTANT! Simple laundry soap is often used as a detergent for terry towels. It removes dirt well, keeping terry fabric fibers fluffy and soft.
Use of improvised means
In addition to choosing the right detergents for washing and following the rules for caring for home textiles, an important rule for maintaining the softness and visual appeal of terry is use when washing with soft water. If tap water is very hard, you can soften it in different ways.
- Filter. Installing a special softening filter will remove excess impurities from the water that negatively affect the fabric: lime, rust, scale.
- Salt.Dissolving a little salt in the water will also make it softer. In household chemical stores you can find special salt for machine washing.
- Vinegar. Adding a small amount of table vinegar to the conditioner compartment of the washing machine will not only soften the water, but also gently whiten the laundry.
- Soda. Adding baking soda to your washing machine tray will help keep your laundry soft. It is permissible to combine baking soda and vinegar to achieve maximum effect.
- Lemon acid. Will help cope with complex dirt and stains. After soaping and rinsing the problem area, sprinkle the fabric generously with citric acid and leave for 5 minutes. After exposure, the product is washed and rinsed. If you don't have acid on hand, you can use lemon. It is squeezed out so that the juice gets onto the stain.
ADVICE! Special balls for washing down jackets, which can be purchased at hardware stores, will help keep terry fabric fluffy.
These products are placed in the drum of the washing machine and delicately beat the fabric fibers, preventing them from sticking together during washing and spinning.
How to restore the look of washed towels
If textiles have already lost their softness and color saturation, do not despair. There are a number of ways to revive washed towels.
Salt
One of the main helpers in restoring terry fabric is salt. To do this, you need to dissolve 3 tablespoons of salt in a basin of warm water and soak the towels in it for 30 minutes. After this time, wash the items as usual using delicate detergents.
Ammonia
Ammonia will help restore the rich colors of the fabric, get rid of the gray tint and stubborn stains.So, for 1 liter of water at room temperature, add 1 tablespoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of ammonia. Leave the textiles to soak in this solution overnight, then wash and rinse thoroughly.
IMPORTANT! The use of synthetic bleach on fleecy fabrics is strictly not recommended! This can lead to coarsening of the fibers and deformation of the product.
To keep your terry towel soft
A competent choice of detergents and following the rules of washing and spinning terry products are not the key to maintaining the softness and visual appeal of towels. An additional important condition is to follow important recommendations for drying, ironing and storing this type of textile.
- After washing, it is best to hang the laundry outside or in a well-ventilated area. This will saturate the fibers with oxygen and give them additional volume.
- It is recommended that you shake each item thoroughly before hanging it to dry. Then the villi will straighten out and become fluffy.
- Do not dry terry products on hot radiators and electrical appliances, as well as in rooms with dry air. This will make the fabric feel rough.
- Terry fabric does not require careful ironing. If heat treatment is necessary, it is better to use vertical steaming.
