Bed sheets

Dreams are invented so that we do not get bored while sleeping.

In everyday life, every person is surrounded by hundreds of everyday little things that we are so accustomed to that we don’t even consider them something important or special. For most people, such a thing is bed linen, without which few people imagine their life. But soft and comfortable bedding is the key to quality sleep. Today, bedding manufacturers pamper the buyer with a huge assortment of colors, fabrics, sizes and shapes that can satisfy the demand of any buyer.

The culture of covering the bed with cloth appeared in Europe only during the Renaissance, at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 14th centuries. Until then, people slept on the floor or small wooden floors covered with animal skins or hay. Bed linen was an element of luxurious life and was used exclusively in rich families; ordinary people were able to use it only at the end of the 18th century.

Our ancestors firmly believed that in addition to aesthetic significance, bed linen also has a sacred meaning. That is, the tissue that a person touches with his body, much less sleeps, has a very strong energy message. Thus, one of the most prominent women who used incredibly soft and scented bed linen was Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, better known as the Marquise de Pompadour, the beloved of King Louis XV. In the diaries of the ladies of the court, it was often mentioned that the monarch’s favorite constantly demanded that the laundresses soak all bedding in rose oils for several hours - supposedly this ensured not only softness of the linen, but also a restful sleep.

In Russia, during the period of worship of pagan gods, there was a ritual of bonding the young. At a wedding, the mother of the bride or groom always tied the hands of the newlyweds with a sheet. At that time, people believed that this ritual would be the key to a happy family life. It is still customary in small villages and auls to give a set of bed linen as a gift for a wedding.

Peculiarities

With the development of modern technologies, the production of bed linen has become widespread, the work of motorists has been replaced by machines, and hand embroidery has ceased to be relevant. Today, everyone can choose not only the color, but also the fabric to suit their taste. Nevertheless, there are several simple rules that can help you decide on the choice of bedding.

Modern somnologists - scientists who study sleep - advise choosing underwear made of satin. This type of cotton is considered the most comfortable for the body, reduces sweating and does not absorb dirt. The pillowcase should fit the pillow tightly, and the duvet cover should be chosen with buttons that prevent the blanket from crawling out. Bed linen must be ironed damp and changed at least once every two weeks.
