Consumer products are divided into two categories - returnable and non-returnable. Sometimes people make purchases that they later regret for some reason.
For example, household appliances can be returned. You can return them without problems within two weeks, with uncut tags and if you have a receipt. Hygiene products and many food products cannot be returned. When buying bedding, you may wonder: is it possible to return it?
Return of bed linen
It is impossible to unequivocally answer the question “is it possible to return bed linen”. There are conditions that you need to pay attention to when returning a product. These conditions include the material from which the underwear is made, whether it was printed or left in the packaging, and others. The reasons may be different: it didn’t fit, defects were found on the fabric (defects), or you simply didn’t like it or didn’t need it.
The question of how to return a product or whether it can be done can be answered based on the law.
It often happens that bed linen cannot be returned. If it was purchased not in a large hypermarket, but in a small private store, then there is a chance that a kind seller will meet you halfway and accept the underwear back. However, most often the opposite happens. A defective product that needs to be sold is wrapped beautifully and everything is done to ensure that it is bought. After the buyer opens the package and sees a defect, the store will not accept the product back, based on the law. Not every seller is well versed in the laws, or is trying to deceive. There are several myths here
Myths about returning goods
The most common myth is that any product can be returned within two weeks. This is wrong. As already written above, not all products are included in the list of goods that can be returned within two weeks from the date of purchase. The second common myth is that bed linen is absolutely not returnable, just like underwear, since it is included in the list of woven products. There is such a law, it's true. Most often, sellers refer to it, not wanting to accept the goods back.
But bedding should not be confused with underwear. Bodywear is considered a personal item and cannot be returned. And bed sheets have special circumstances for returning. Those who claim that bed linen is definitely not returnable are deeply mistaken. Based on the laws, you can find out in what cases the product must be returned.
What do the laws say?
Indeed, there is a law called the “law on the protection of consumer rights” and a number of other legislative documents that clearly state the list of goods that cannot be handed over. Among them are knitwear products and other products from the underwear category. But GOST does not mean bedding products by these products. GOST contains a list of goods, among which there is no mention of bed linen.
Various stockings, socks, underwear, pajama shirts and the like. Everything described in the list is underwear, not bed linen. If you need more detailed information about the law, you can easily find it through a search engine. Due to ignorance of the laws, sellers may stubbornly refuse to return goods. Then some people turn to lawyers. Here, too, it all depends on the specialist, his interests and professional point of view, but more often the underwear is returned. If the product was defective, all material losses are paid by the seller.
How to contact the store to make a return
If the presentation of the packaging and the product itself is not damaged, you should at least try to return the linen. If you are sure that the product is in marketable condition and you are obliged to accept it back, but the seller does not agree to any agreement, you should contact the administrator or director of the store. If this does not work, you can go further by contacting the consumer protection society or the manufacturer. However, in the latter case, you need to make sure that the purchased underwear is not a fake. Especially.
The law states that a return is possible if the buyer is not satisfied with the size, style, print (color) or packaging. In such cases, the purchased kit can simply be replaced with another one that will suit you in all respects. At the same time, do not forget that you can make a claim if more than two weeks have passed from the date of purchase.
Note! The product must not be used or damaged, the packaging and receipt must not be damaged, the kit must be fully assembled as it was when purchased. You cannot return washed items, even if they have just been washed but not used. If, when purchasing bed linen with a defect, the buyer was informed about this in advance, then it will no longer be possible to return it.
If the set is damaged or returned partially, the buyer simply changed his mind about purchasing, more than 14 days have passed since the date of purchase, then the return of goods of this category may be refused and this will be absolutely legal. When making a return, the seller must be presented with a receipt and the reason or claim that prompted me to return my laundry to the store. The packaging, as already written, should be preserved as much as possible. If there is a serious reason for the return, the seller is obliged to issue it.
Registration procedure
First you need to write a statement stating the reasons. In the application, the buyer addresses the manufacturer or seller. The application is written in the store where the product was purchased. The money is returned depending on when the application is written. If the application is written on the day of purchase, the money must be returned the next day. Money is paid from the cash register to which payment for the returned goods was made.
Important! A receipt must be attached to the application, and the buyer’s passport must also be presented. The application must indicate the circumstances of the purchase, time, store address and date of purchase. If a product is returned due to defective or inadequate quality, the buyer has the right to a refund not only for the product, but also compensation for material damage.
Then you need to attach a certificate of inadequate quality to the application. You must make a copy of the written application and have the cashier sign both the copy and the application. For the seller himself, returning is not easy either. Return form
When returning bed linen, fill out the form Form Torg-13. it must be filled out either by the cashier (or seller) who made the sale, or by the senior cashier. Cashiers with little experience most often do not know how to do such operations and always call the senior cashier. The “sender” column and the “recipient” column are filled in, where the data of the buyer and seller are written off, respectively.
The cashier (seller) will need to draw up a statement of return of money in the KM-3 form, and the funds paid to the buyer must be reflected in a special transaction journal. If the application is not written on the day of purchase, then the return is made a little differently. Presentation of a receipt and passport remains mandatory; the buyer fills out the application in free form. The cashier, in turn, returns the money not from the cash register where it was allocated, but from the general cash register of the organization.
In this case, there is no need to draw up KM-3 - money is issued according to a cash order, which combines expenses of future periods. Filling out the TORG-13 form remains mandatory. You need to check with the cashier/seller about the terms of refund. Cashless payments are possible.
Reminder on how to choose bed linen
How to choose a product so that you don’t have to return it in the future? Initially, you need to decide what kind of bed to buy linen for, what size blankets and pillows. Usually it is a double, single or semi-size. You need to find out about this in advance so that the selected product is not small or, conversely, large. In addition, it is worth paying attention to the material. Sometimes the appearance in the package is quite deceiving, and upon unpacking it turns out that the fabric is not pleasant at all!
Or material to which a person may have allergic reactions and rashes. On the packaging they write in detail what the underwear is made of. It is worth paying attention to the print. Stores must provide a set of underwear unwrapped (which is not intended for sale) so that the buyer can familiarize himself with the colors in advance. If, when going to the store, you take into account all the requirements for the size, style, and color of the desired set, return incidents can be easily avoided. After all, the procedure itself is tedious for both the seller and the buyer.
Detailed article about how to choose bed linen.
Very useful and clear article! Knowing the law is important, even necessary. I thought so, as it is written in the article, that bed linen, like underwear, cannot be returned. Unscrupulous sellers take advantage of this - I fell for it myself when the pillowcases didn’t fit, but I didn’t bother to look into it.
Marina, you need to know the size of the pillows before buying pillowcases, especially since there are only two of them
We read part 1 of article 25 of the Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”. In the attached “List of goods not subject to exchange” in paragraph.4 indicated: Textile goods (cotton, linen, silk, wool and synthetic fabrics, goods made from non-woven materials such as fabrics - ribbons, braid, lace and others). Bed linen is a textile product.

The author incorrectly assesses the situation with returns, presents the article in such a way as if the customer is being sold defective and counterfeit goods in the store, and then stupid sellers who do not know the laws do not accept the underwear back from the buyer, and the money must be given upon request. Complete nonsense. Author, do not mislead people: the list of goods is written in such a way that general categories of goods are implied; if the list is detailed, then the list will take at least the format of an encyclopedia - there are a lot of product groups. And most of 90% are non-refundable.
