To correctly select accessories for your favorite blanket, the main thing is not to get confused in these same standards. But a smart choice will immediately eliminate many problems in its use. So, what types of duvet covers are there?
Standard bedding sizes
The whole huge range of linen can be divided into five main groups, within which there will be only minor differences in size:
- Russian standards include one-and-a-half and double sets.
- According to European standards, regular double bed linen is made, as well as accessories of increased sizes, called “king size” or “maxi”.
- The fifth group includes family sets with two duvet covers, which are becoming increasingly popular among consumers.

Depending on a particular standard, the configuration of the sets and, naturally, the sizes of the units included in them will differ. In order not to make a mistake in choosing, you need to measure your blanket or look at its parameters on the packaging or label, and then, according to them, choose a duvet cover to your liking.
Euro
This standard, which came to us from Europe, implies a double set. It includes a sheet, two or four pillowcases and a duvet cover. The typical size of the latter is 175x215 cm.
By the way! There are enlarged versions of such underwear sets, which are called “maxi”. In them, the length of the duvet cover can reach up to 240 cm.
In this case, Europe often means continental countries - Italy, France, Austria and others. In the UK, a different system of measures is used and the parameters of underwear are identical to the American ones. On imported packages, such underwear is usually labeled “King” or “Queen”. The first one is slightly longer and wider.
Double
A popular lingerie production standard in Russia, preserved from the times of the USSR. The equipment is similar to the European sets, but differs in slightly smaller sizes.

Family
This set, sometimes called a "Duet", is essentially a double set in which one large duvet cover is replaced by two lorries measuring 145x215 cm. In Western Europe, with the same width, the length of the duvet cover is shorter and is only 200 cm. But in the USA, where they love everything big, the standard is 170x220 cm.
Children's
A children's bedding set usually means a set with a reduced length. The standard sizes here can be different and you can easily choose the one you need for any child’s height and bed dimensions. Duvet cover sizes can vary from 143x210 to 160x230 cm.
Abroad, teenage sets are not classified as a separate category. For children of this age, they usually choose bedding of an adult standard, approximately corresponding to Russian one-and-a-half sets.
For a newborn
Linen for babies, which is often sold under the name “Cribs,” also has its own standards and can be selected based on the size of the children’s mattress. The length and width of the duvet cover are also ambiguous and range from 110x140 to 125x150 cm. Domestic manufacturers most often produce it in sizes 115x147 cm. This corresponds to a standard wooden crib.
The most popular in Europe is 100x120 cm, and in North America 101x121 cm. This discrepancy is caused by the conversion of units of measurement from the English system to the metric system. This remark is true for all given combinations of length and width.

3. Please note that the duvet cover should be several centimeters wider than both the duvet itself and the mattress. The ideal margin is approximately 5 cm in each direction. This will make the process of putting it on easier.
