How to hem curtains

Large curtains in the hallAn important component in completing the interior design are curtains, which provide warmth and comfort in all rooms of the house. With their help, you can create natural lighting in your home, and in the dark, close the windows from unnecessary attention from the street. You can use an easier method for these purposes - hang the blinds. But only high-quality window dressing can create home comfort.

In stores it is quite difficult to choose a finished product that will completely fit in size, so there is a need to adjust it to the required length. In such a situation, you can use the services of an atelier. But it is better and cheaper to hem fabrics at home, especially since it is not so difficult if you follow all the recommendations.

In practice, there are several options for hemming: universal - using a sewing machine, manual method and using adhesive tape. The last option is the simplest, especially for beginners in this matter.

Certain steps need to be completed: fold the fabric to the desired length, run the iron along the seam, place double-sided tape in the seam allowance fold and hold the iron on the fabric. The advantages include ease and seamlessness of execution, but the disadvantages are that after several washes the edges begin to stick over. This can be fixed - you need to remove the old layer of tape and apply a fresh one.

Important! If the tape is used on heavy fabrics or the hem is wide, then it is better to glue it in two rows.

How to sew curtains with eyeletsWhen using the manual method, using a hidden (almost invisible) seam, the following steps are performed. Take a needle and thread with a color close to the shade of the curtains and hem it from the wrong side, picking up one thread of the fabric without piercing through. This option is quite labor intensive.

Hemming curtains using a sewing machine requires certain skills in this matter. You must be careful to ensure that the fabric does not stretch during operation. For this purpose, we first manually stitch and iron the material, and only then sew it on a machine.

When processing seams, it is necessary to take into account the density of the material: for thin fabrics, a double hem is suitable; for thicker fabrics, it is better to use a single hem so that the seams do not seem too voluminous.
