Curtains are a bright accent that emphasizes style, gives the room a finished look and makes the room cozy. But fabric decorations for window openings are only part of the composition; the main, attention-grabbing attribute is the cornice. Repair experts can carefully and quickly assemble curtains, but beginners can also learn how to do this.
Assembling the curtain
In order for the window textiles to “fall” into place, it is necessary to assemble correctly. To do this, you need to accurately measure the correct values (length of the cornice, distance from the wall), buy the required cornice, related tools, materials and begin its installation.
What to consider when collecting
Even before purchasing a cornice, you need to consider the following points:
- Ceiling surface – if it is uneven, then wall products should be used. The ceiling curtain fits tightly to the ceiling, so if it is not ideal, gaps at the junction will be noticeable.
- Textile function – if the home owners plan to only close the window opening, and not the entire wall, then they need to buy a cornice 60 cm longer than the window.
- Density of fabric for curtains – for thin fabrics, the distance of the curtain from the wall does not matter, but thick textiles require compliance with this parameter. For jacquard, linen, and moiré folds, a minimum of 20 cm of space from the wall is required.
Maintaining a distance between the curtains and the wall will prevent the textiles from fitting tightly to the heating radiator, which can deform the curtains.
Assembling the ceiling curtain
Before you begin installation, you need to arm yourself with the following tools: a drill with a 4–5 mm drill bit, a measuring tape, a building level and a hammer drill. For drawings you will also need a simple pencil or thin chalk, and to fix the product - fasteners (dowels, screws).
Instructions
First you need to measure the dimensions, then use a drill to drill holes in the cornice - evenly and symmetrically. The first is drilled in the center, the rest - at a distance of 40–45 cm in the direction from the center. If the cornice consists of several strips (for curtains and tulle), then they are attached separately. The curtain is attached to the concrete floor as follows:
- The product is applied to the ceiling, and the mounting points are marked with a pencil.
- Holes 4-5 cm long are drilled in the concrete.
- Dowels are inserted into the resulting openings, then the product is applied and screwed with screws.
For wooden floors, the scheme is simplified - the cornice is immediately attached with self-tapping screws. The final stage of work - after putting on the hooks, you need to secure the ends with plugs.
Important! When attaching a curtain to a suspended structure, the fastening scheme depends on the location of the embedded base elements.
What to pay attention to
In order for the curtain to take its place evenly and neatly, it is necessary to take into account the following nuances:
- The distance from the bracket to the wall should be the same on both sides.
- When the length of the cornice is more than 2 meters, it is necessary to install a third bracket to avoid deformation.
- Calculate the length of the product in advance, combine several canvases into one (with a wide window opening).
Compliance with these rules will help save time and avoid additional financial expenses.
How to assemble a wall curtain
The installation procedure includes the following points:
- Measuring length - it is better to do this by drawing a horizontal line using a level and chalk.
- Fix the mounting points of the brackets at the same distance on the left and right.
- Secure the brackets using self-tapping screws, and then fix the cornice itself.
Important! When installing curtains from one wall to another (opposite), you need to make sure that the structure will not interfere with the opening of the window.
Assembly instructions
When the walls are covered with plasterboard, it is better not to attach massive structures to them. If there is no other option, then you need to use the longest wood screws (140–150 mm) and try to get them into the metal profile. If this is not possible, then you need to use dowels - ordinary plastic dowels are suitable for walls made of plaster, wood, aerated concrete, and pine dowels for brick partitions.
Curtain with rings
Window textiles with eyelets (rings) allow you to create neat symmetrical folds in the fabric. To install curtains on rings, you need to take measurements, secure the brackets (for long curtains over 2 m you will need 3 brackets), and place them on them. Then thread the curtains and cover the side parts of the fastener with decorative plugs.
What to pay attention to
If installed correctly, the cornice will complement the interior and perform its practical functions (hold curtains). To avoid inconvenience with opening and closing windows or balcony doors, you need to attach the curtain no lower than 5 cm from the window opening. Also, so that the rings can be easily put on the bar, the brackets should be attached 3 cm from the ends.
