Without a doubt, curtains and drapes are not only “coziness creators”, but also a natural barrier against street gas and dust. And perhaps we will not see obvious dirt and dust on them, but we cannot be completely sure of their cleanliness. Any curtains will require cleaning or washing over time. Therefore, there are some tips for caring for your “beauties”.
Washing Roman blinds
Since it is, in fact, just a piece of fabric, it is not picky in its care. Depending on the material, you can wash it by machine or by hand.
Pay close attention to the composition of the fabric. For example, if it is linen, then the washing cycle should be long, as it easily absorbs all odors. You cannot dry it dry, because then it will be impossible to smooth out all the “wrinkles” with an iron.
If the procedure is done by machine, you must first remove the hard inserts or wash the curtain in a special bag. If the fabric of Roman blinds is specially impregnated, then most likely they can only be washed with special detergents or taken to dry cleaning.
ATTENTION! A purchased curtain should have care instructions, read it carefully, and do not ignore the advice.
Washing roller blinds
This type of curtains is considered the most practical. Their care is minimal. It may be enough to remove dust from them by vacuuming or wiping with a dry cloth. But even such curtains will eventually require washing. And it's actually not as difficult as it might seem. They are easy to remove: the latches are removed and the panels are separated from the fastening.
IMPORTANT! No washing machine! Otherwise, you are guaranteed a trip to buy new curtains.
Carefully unroll the roller blinds in the bathroom, wet them and apply a mild detergent. Then rinse the fabric thoroughly with plenty of water. There should be no detergent remaining. Dry only flat, without kinks; ironing is not recommended.
ATTENTION! No bleaching agents! Wash the cloth in a circular motion, do not rub under any circumstances!
NOTE TO THE HOUSEWIFE: roll the curtains to the top position if you have active cooking in the kitchen with splashes and grease.
Washing organza curtains
Organza is a transparent fabric based on silk, viscose or polyester. Often beautiful embroidery is done on the canvas, a design is applied by printing or etching. There may also be fringe, beads, etc. Therefore, it is better to avoid machine washing immediately. Although, if you are confident in your curtain or the manufacturer allows delicate washing, then go ahead.
The golden rule for organza: soak repeatedly in a soft product. You can’t soak it for a long time and just once! Soaked, drained the water, soaked again in another water, and so on until the water became clear.
IMPORTANT! Organza is a delicate material; it should not be roughly wrung out or twisted!
You can squeeze it slightly, but it’s better to let the water drain on its own. Then, while still wet, the canvas is hung in its place, and all the folds will smooth out by themselves, so there is no need to iron, and minor imperfections can be removed by weight using steam.
REFERENCE. When washing in a machine, use the same recommendations, only first place the fabric in a pillowcase, and the washing temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.
Washing curtains with eyelets
Hand or machine wash - that is the question. And this will depend on the quality of the eyelets themselves! If you are confident in the chosen accessories or the manufacturer’s washing recommendations state this possibility, then it is much easier for you. Place the curtains in a special bag or pillowcase and throw them in the wash.
ATTENTION! Regardless of the type of fabric, choose a gentle, delicate mode and a temperature no higher than 40 degrees.
But still, the best way to wash curtains with eyelets is by hand. Naturally, it requires a lot of time and effort, but your curtains will last longer.
So, if possible, remove the eyelets, this will save the fittings, especially if you are not sure about them or they are not of very high quality. Make a cleaning solution according to the composition of the fabric and soak for several hours. Then rinse thoroughly and set aside to drain. Dry in a manner appropriate to the composition of the fabric and attach the eyelets in place.
NOTE TO THE HOUSEWIFE: for delicate fabrics, you can use a shampoo that cleans well and rinses off just as well, without leaving streaks.
Washing linen curtains
Linen curtains are an excellent choice for any room (except the bathroom, of course). Ecology plus beauty! But when caring for such curtains, many nuances arise. Linen is much more difficult to wash and care for.We must remember that you cannot waste water when washing linen fabric. Just soaking it in a basin and expecting a good result will not work. Therefore, if you decide to wash it by hand, then pour a full bath and soak it.
TIP: for greater effect, leave the fabric in a soapy solution the first time, then the linen will wash better.
Do not pour the powder directly onto the fabric - you will not be able to rinse it out, there will be streaks. If the curtains are colored, then the water should not be hot, otherwise the fabric will fade, but if they are snow-white, it can be 90 degrees. When machine washing, follow normal instructions. Do not overload the drum: since flax is heavy, you can load one sheet at a time.
TIP: Use liquid or capsule products. If you doubt your powder, try it on a piece of similar fabric.
Flax has a negative attitude towards chlorine. It is better not to use a spin cycle - both when washing by hand and by machine.
Another important nuance is drying. Straighten the curtain as much as possible so that there are as few folds and creases as possible. You only need to iron it while it is damp, do not overdry it.

Washing bathroom curtains

- If you get a greasy stain, you need to act immediately: blot it with a napkin or paper towel. If you can put it on the windowsill, then sprinkle the stain with salt or starch. Then wipe with alcohol, and the appearance will be preserved until washing. Laundry soap (brown) will also save the situation, but after it you need to rinse the curtain.
- If you have expensive, heavy curtains, then it is better to entrust them to professionals.
WARNING: Avoid using water to wipe stains on silk or wool! This can lead to deformation and shrinkage of the canvas in one place.
