What do you think about when you look back at your photos from five or ten years ago? And remembering your habits, daily routine? Of course, that everything could have been done differently. Don't buy those terrible jeans, don't wear so much makeup... If I had the opportunity to send a message to the past, I would try to protect myself from several fatal "wardrobe" mistakes.
Wardrobe mistakes we make when we're young
After analyzing how my friends and I looked and behaved 8-10 years ago, I came to a disappointing conclusion. Not only were we making mistakes, we were committing epic failures. Some of these “failures” had a negative impact not only on our image, but also on our health. What errors are we talking about?
Failure No. 1. The desire to look “sexy” always and everywhere
No, of course, I have nothing against short skirts, heels, décolleté, or bright makeup. But what if all this is collected in one image? What if this “image” left the house at 7 am and went to class or work? The effect is, of course, mind-blowing, but is it appropriate?
In order to be sexy, you don't always need to look eccentric and provocative. Moreover, at classes at the university or at a work meeting, those around you are unlikely to need your bare legs, scarlet lips or cleavage. In everyday life, you can and should dress and look interesting. But in order not to spoil your business image, all the attributes of daring sexuality must be left for dates.
Failure No. 2. Dress inappropriately for the weather.
Of course, we are talking about thin tights and miniskirts in winter. Why did we think it was beautiful before? When I remember myself in the winter, dressing up for school, and my mother, who literally did not want to let me leave the house, I will shudder. Where was my common sense and brains that I was parading around in the cold without cotton pants? No, of course, while waiting at the bus stop for my bus, I imagined myself as Nastenka from the fairy tale “Morozko,” but that was where my regrets ended.
This mistake of youth, which almost all girls make, is perhaps one of the most serious. Trying to make a certain impression on others, we absolutely do not think that short skirts in winter will come back to haunt our health. Cystitis, inflammatory processes, inability to get pregnant - all this can be a consequence of nylon tights at -10 ºС.
Failure No. 3. Copying someone else's style
The main thing that a girl who imitates her favorite singer or actress in everything does not realize is that copying other people’s images is a waste of time. Other people's images will never look the same on us as on the originals.
Don't waste your time imitating anyone. It’s very easy to lose your “I” by copying someone else’s style every day. Of course, at the age of 18-20, taste may still not exist, but imitation is unlikely to serve as the basis for its development. In order to find your own image and, at least by the age of 25-30, decide on a style and image, images of idols should be considered only as sources of inspiration.
Failure No. 4. Buying things on sales
Did your heart skip a beat after reading the word “sale”? I had the same reaction before. I couldn’t calmly walk past the store with the treasured sign hanging on the door. I even specifically found out the dates of global “sales” and left all my money for them. Were these clothes worn later? Were things that seemed so necessary used? The question is rather rhetorical...
Buying things on sales is profitable only when we take 1-2 things at a discount. But that happens very rarely, doesn’t it? With sparkling eyes and empty wallets, we leave the stores, satisfied with a successful shopping experience. But the pleasure from the purchases almost immediately disappears upon arrival home. As we sort through the packages, we realize that most of them were put into the cart simply because they were “50% cheaper.”
Failure No. 5. Improper care of things
I remember how, as a student, I bought myself a wonderful cashmere sweater. I bought it and threw it away a few days later. No, the sweater was great, it looked great on me and was very beautiful. I just ruined it by washing it in the washing machine along with my jeans. Has this ever happened to you?
The sweater incident was not the last. In these and even more “sophisticated” ways, I destroyed many good things. Not because I didn’t know how to care for them. Because I didn’t give it much importance. Now, taught by bitter experience, I read all the labels. I wash things that look too “capricious” by hand. Why? Yes, because I feel sorry for my money and the time that was spent on acquiring it.Today my wardrobe is filled with expensive things and proper care of them has become just a habit.
Fail No. 6. Wear jeans to work
Immediately after university, I was lucky enough to get a job in a good and quite large company. The dress code there was prescribed by the charter, but since the management was often on the move, many did not comply with it. I did the same. Coming to the office in jeans? Easily. Sneakers and leggings instead of a pencil skirt and heels? Why not.
Do you know when I regretted not following the dress code at work? When, being on legal maternity leave for three years, I accidentally “collided” with my 12-year-old pumps.centimeter stiletto heel I was so glad to see them, but where to wear them? To the sandbox or to the playground? I think many women now recognize themselves in this situation.
All those bad wardrobe habits and mistakes made when you were young leave their mark. Of course, this is what it was given to us for, but we shouldn’t stoop to extremes. Dress appropriately for the weather, study clothing tags, do not imitate others, follow the dress code. All this will help the young, stupid young duckling turn into a beautiful mature swan.
