This daring style originated in the early 60s and is increasingly gaining momentum among Japanese fashionistas. His fans are girls with a strong independent character. Translated “suke” means woman, ban means boss. Nowadays, following the said style is a way to show your personality through somewhat aggressive clothing.
How the style appeared
It is worth noting that the centuries-old history of Japanese culture had unspoken laws regarding the female sex. The girl’s main task was to serve a man, any ambitions were suppressed at the root, study and work were rather the exception to the rule. Sooner or later, protest against such treatment was bound to arise.
The emergence of the movement is a loud statement of independence and female power. Initially, the Sukeban were female groups that robbed and terrorized the quiet population of what was then Japan. Ladies, without unnecessary modesty or delicacy, took weapons in their tiny hands and terrified entire neighborhoods.
Sukeban groups had different numbers, one of the largest gangs had 20,000 members.They, as they say, had their own atmosphere. Violent clashes between different groups led to the death of their members.
For betraying their clan, young ladies were brutally punished in hair-raising ways. It's hard to believe that lynching and other bloodthirsty massacres were still practiced anywhere in the early 1960s. The boom in group growth emerged as a challenge to the male bandit gang, the bancho. The guys also wreaked havoc on the streets and dreamed of becoming the yakuza.
How sukeban women dress up
These girls dressed in comfortable sailor uniforms, but in order to somehow differ from the guys, they combined them with pleated skirts. The look was completed with leather gloves, pants or jackets. The beauties often rode bikes. Their life required sharp decisions and lightning-fast reactions - clothes had to be comfortable, but with a certain sexual touch.
Over time, the situation has softened, now sukeban is just a strict and somewhat warlike image. At one time, this trend began to be actively used by television, the film industry, and popular fashion magazines. And almost immediately, on all the billboards in Japan, girls began to stand on all the billboards with a look that said “try to come over,” dressed in charming short skirts and with children’s yo-yo toys.
This image is firmly rooted, but today's lady bosses are not a threat to society - they are just stylish girls who know how to present themselves tasty. Their looks combine challenge and restraint, danger and femininity. The style has acquired many new variations:
- dresses with the same wide collars;
- mini or maxi skirts;
- stockings;
- strict short haircuts;
- hats.
All this can complement the look of a modern Sukeban girl.Metal or velvet collars, glass chokers, geometric rings, hats and glasses are also used. It turns out to be a very harmonious ensemble.
At the same time, the girls do not cross the boundaries - it does not look like a carnival of madness. They strive to create a tasty, slightly disturbing image. You always want to get closer to such girls. These are not cute fairy fairies, but powerful mistresses of the situation - this fact excites, attracts and repels at the same time.
Play with your images, change your role, character, behavior pattern. At times, clothes have a magical effect on all of us.
