Surely many have wondered why, out of the whole heap of wardrobe items, only some things transform the appearance, becoming loved, while others are rarely worn or not worn at all. And it also happens - you see a beautiful blouse or dress on someone, buy the same ones, and then look disappointed in the mirror, not understanding: “Why does it look good on her, but not on me?” To avoid such problems, you just need to find out your color type, and also figure out which tones of clothing best suit your appearance.
What is a color type and what can it be?
A color type is understood as a combination of skin tones, eyes and hair, which creates a certain “composition” of your appearance. The traditional and one of the most widespread theories for classifying appearance by color type is the “seasons” theory. According to her, girlish (and not only) appearance can be attributed to winter, spring, autumn or summer. Now this theory has been “improved” - there are not only types, but also subtypes, but let’s start, as they say, with the basics. So, the main color types.
Winter
Features: contrast between the main components of appearance - skin, hair, eyes - and color depth. These characteristics are key. The skin is very light or, conversely, distinctly dark, the eyes are deep or bright in color, radiant (brown, dark, rich blue), the hair is white, black or dark chestnut color with a cold tint. Cold color type.
Reference. “Winter” appearance is the second most common in our latitudes.
Summer
Features are cold, muted, as if slightly “shaded” natural tones - from very light to medium-dark. Due to such a wide range of shades, representatives of the type can differ strikingly in appearance. The skin is light, with a peach or olive undertone, the eyes are most often blue or gray, there are green ones, less often brown, the hair is light brown, ashen tones. Cold type of appearance.
Reference. “Summer” appearance is considered the most common in northern latitudes.
Spring
Features: clean and bright, “warm” tones of appearance. The skin is light, as if glowing, it often has freckles and blush, the eyes are light shades of blue or green, they can be gray, the hair is “warm” golden tones. This is a warm type.
Autumn
Features: warm, deep, slightly “muffled” tones. Autumn is often said to be the “golden time” of the year. The epithet “golden” can also characterize “autumn” appearance. Skin - shines with beige, honey shades, eyes - green or brown, hair - from light brown with a golden tint to red and copper-red. Of course, this is a warm type.
Reference. A logical question: “If the autumn and spring types are warm and have many similar characteristics, then how to distinguish them?”The difference is in the brightness and muted tones. Spring is characterized by brighter, purer shades, autumn tones are deep, as if shaded.
Have you read it, taken it into account, but still have doubts and a feeling of uncertainty? An expanded, “improved” typology will help you, where each “season” is divided into three subtypes.
Subtypes
Taking into account the subtypes, it turns out that there are a total of 12 “categories” of appearance. Surely you will find yours in one of them. Let's start again with the cold “time of year”.
Winter:
- Dark. Dark hair and eyes, light “contrasting” skin. There may be a warm undertone in the appearance - in the color of the eyes or hair.
- Cold. The appearance is completely devoid of warm colors, the skin is very light, like porcelain. Hair is “cold” - no golden or red strands.
- Bright. The key feature is reflected in the name. The tones of the appearance are noticeable, cold, contrasting with each other.
Summer:
- Light. And again, the range of shades characteristic of this type can be determined based on the name. Hair of light, cool tones - flaxen, wheat-colored, eyes gray, light blue. Skin undertone is peach or olive. The lowest contrast of all “summer” subtypes.
- Cold. It has medium contrast and is easily confused with the previous subtype. The skin is beige in tone, the eyes can be any color except brown, the hair is medium brown or dark, but not warm.
- Soft. Cool color with light splashes of warm. Ash or light brown hair, fading under the rays of the sun, can be diluted with golden strands. The skin is not dark, but not pale either, rather medium-light, and may have a blush.
Spring:
- Bright. The shades of all components of the appearance are bright, clean, as if glowing.Hair shades range from copper to dark brown with golden splashes, light skin with peach, pink or light bronze undertones.
- Warm. The appearance is completely devoid of cold tones. Hair shades are golden brown or copper red. Eyes and skin of light, warm shades.
- Light. “Light spring” girls have very fair skin, on which freckles can often be seen. Hair is a very light blonde, sometimes with a reddish tint.
Autumn:
- Soft. Almost complete lack of contrast. There are both warm and cold colors, the main characteristic of which is mutedness. The hair color, which can be light brown or dark brown, is based on a golden undertone.
- Warm. The brightest and warmest appearance in the autumn “category”. Hair ranges from golden brown to red. The eyes are bright, deep colors.
- Dark. Characterized by a more pronounced contrast. The shades inherent in “autumn” are distinguished by greater depth and richness. Hair and eyes are dark tones, with golden “glimmers”.
