A bag is such a familiar accessory to all of us that it seems as if it has existed since primitive times. This assumption is partly true: our ancestors, who lived in caves, actually carried their simple belongings in bags that, albeit very vaguely, were reminiscent of modern bags.
Today this accessory is used by everyone: both adults and children. According to the generally accepted definition, a bag is a product made of soft material in which various objects can be carried. Most often, handles and belts are sewn onto it for convenience, but there are also models that can be fixed on a belt.
The main occupations of primitive people were hunting and gathering. The caveman walked through the ancient jungle, caught tigers and lions, and in between collected nuts, berries or fruits. Even then it was clear that you couldn’t carry much in your hands, and therefore people learned to make bags from the skins of captured animals, which they fastened with tree branches. This primitive carrier was hung on a long stick to make it more convenient to carry.
However, already the ancient Egyptians wore more durable bags that were attached to a loincloth.Even then, people knew money, and that’s what they carried in such belt pouches.
In the Middle Ages, wallets came into fashion. The first models looked very primitive, and were bags made of durable fabric (most often linen was used), tied with a leather cord. Such wallets were called coin purses and were worn exclusively on the belt.
Only in the 14th century did a bag become more than just an item for carrying and storing money. During the Renaissance, people finally realized that it could become a real decoration that could transform any outfit. At that time, this accessory began to be decorated with precious metals and stones, pearls, and it was sewn from expensive fabrics. For example, from silk, brocade. Of course, only immodestly rich Europeans could afford such a bag.
In the 19th century, this accessory “moved” from the waist into the hands of beautiful ladies and fashionable gentlemen. The famous reticule appeared - a small women's bag with a frame-type lock and several compartments.
The beginning of the twentieth century was a turbulent, dark time of endless wars and political upheavals. Then we remembered that a bag is a practical item. If it is modified, it will be perfect for carrying cartridges and weapons. Such an unusual accessory was strangely called a pouch, and began to be worn on an army belt.
In the first half of the 20th century, women carried large bags over their shoulders (which, again, was very practical). In the 30s, a purse appeared that was attached to the hand. The fact that a bag should be fashionable was only remembered closer to the middle of the twentieth century.
In the modern world, a bag is no longer considered just a product for storing and carrying things. Today it is a stylish accessory, when choosing which you have to take into account many factors.Well chosen, it will decorate any image, making it bright and fashionable.
To sew this accessory, different materials are used: leather and suede, synthetics and mixed fabrics, cotton, linen, knitwear and much more.
It is pointless to list all the types of bags that can be found on the shelves of modern stores. There are a lot of them, and therefore we will note the most common models:
Of course, this list is incomplete. There are many original and very interesting bags in the world, which can be either very simple everyday bags or sophisticated ones, created for luxurious evening wear.
