Every person wants to have a flawless appearance on business trips. Unfortunately, business clothes packed in a suitcase are often very wrinkled and need to be ironed upon arrival.
This can be avoided by using special folding techniques when packing wardrobe items into a travel bag.
How to properly pack a business suit for a trip?
Several proven methods will help you compactly pack a business suit into a travel bag, avoiding the appearance of unsightly creases on your clothes.
Blazer
This wardrobe item is not particularly convenient to transport: it is quite bulky, easily wrinkles and has many parts.
But there is a method (clearly demonstrated in the “Live Healthy” program) that allows you to neatly and compactly put your jacket in a travel bag without wrinkling it:
- You need to turn one of the sleeves of this wardrobe element inside out, then you need to straighten the shoulder stand.
- The other sleeve should be inserted, without turning, into the first, shoulder to shoulder, and aligned in length.
- Then you need to place the item on any convenient flat surface and level the sides of the item until an even rectangle is formed.
- The sleeve should be straightened and placed on top.
- You can place socks inside the shoulder - this will fill the voids and maintain the shape of the product (thanks to this technique, the item will not break or become wrinkled). You can also put underwear there.
- Now the jacket and its contents should be rolled into a tight roll, without bending or creasing it.
An item folded in this way can be packed into a suitcase, trying to position the item as straight as possible. Do not place heavy or irregularly shaped items on top of the jacket.
Advice! As practice shows, this product will retain its neat appearance provided that it is transported after first turning it inside out.
If another jacket or coat is already packed in the suitcase, you can resort to another option:
- Turn one of the sleeves of the first jacket inside out and fold the sleeves of the other so that it fits into the turned sleeve of the first item.
- Then you need to fold the item in half and check if it is inside out. You can place a paper sheet or bag between the halves of the jacket to be extra sure that the item will not get wrinkled.
Important! The jacket should not be folded in several layers. In such a case, the product is guaranteed to be wrinkled.
You can fold this wardrobe item without turning it inside out. You should fasten the top button of the jacket and lay it out on a flat surface, facing down. Then you should fold the side edges on each side (as is done when folding shirts so that the two sleeves form a common edge) and fold the jacket in half again.
This folding method is recommended for products made of not very dense material. One thing to take into account here is that the jacket may have a lining to provide extra thickness. In addition, folding the item this way may cause the lining to wrinkle.
Trousers
In order for the trousers to have a decent appearance, it is recommended to fold them exactly according to the arrows. It is advisable to do this on a flat surface. You must first empty your trouser pockets of the contents in them.
Place the top of the trousers folded at the seams at the bottom of the suitcase, leaving their bottom part peeking out of the suitcase.
After the suitcase is completely packed, you need to cover the items packed in it with the bottom of your trousers. To prevent unsightly creases, avoid folding your pants in half.
Advice! It is recommended to transport trousers at the bottom of a suitcase.
Shirt
Before the trip, the shirt must be washed and ironed. Allow the product to cool before placing it in a travel bag. This will help prevent wrinkles.
Need to button up your shirt, after which it must be placed on any flat surface face down and carefully straightened, then the sleeves should be laid out and unfolded. Those who use dry cleaning services can keep the corresponding bags.
If you roll a similar bag so that it takes the shape of a square and place it along the center of the folded shirt, this will prevent wrinkles by creating an additional layer of air.
Then follows use your hands to mark two parallel lines along the back of the product (leaving at least 2.5 cm and no more than 5 cm of fabric on both sides of the collar) and fold along these lines inside the edge of the shirt, connecting them in the middle. After this, you need to straighten the sleeves along the outer edges, resulting in an even parallelogram. Then, along the resulting edge of the shirt, you need to position the sleeves of the product so that they are in line with it.
If the volume of the suitcase allows, it is better to pack the shirt in this position. If the travel bag is not spacious enough, you can tuck the bottom of the product. Then the shirt must be folded into the prepared packaging, leaving some air to form an air cushion.
The product folded in this way should be placed directly into the bag with the front part facing up. It is recommended to place other wardrobe items on top of the shirt or on both sides of it.
Cardboard boxes are sometimes used to transport shirts. This method of transportation helps keep the product fresh and protects it as much as possible from wrinkles.
Travel tips
If after arrival it turns out that the clothes are still wrinkled, you should not despair. You need to hang things on a hanger and place them in the bathroom for 30 minutes, after turning on the hot water to create steam.
After this, the clothes will be smoothed:
- You should not take too many things with you.It is recommended to take only the essentials for your trip.
- Normal folding may cause wrinkles. Therefore, suits and jackets should be folded as tightly as possible.
- If various kinds of trips and business trips happen quite often, it is advisable to purchase a special bag for transporting a suit (sport bag). Some transport companies can rent such bags, which is very convenient.
- It is not recommended to wear a suit on a flight. When it becomes necessary to fasten yourself to a seat, this will not have the best effect on clothing of this kind.
Similar tips can also be useful for those who simply like to travel a lot. Suits and jackets are not only business, but also festive and everyday. By adopting the above methods, you can not only significantly save space in your luggage, but also keep your suit in excellent shape during the trip.
