Materials and tools for making a transformer
An important feature of this backpack is that it can be made from almost any material.
REFERENCE. To create a summer model, it is recommended to use thin, natural and semi-synthetic fabrics.
In this case the foundation is further strengthened dublerin or flisofix. As an alternative, a foam layer or padding polyester is suitable. There are a lot of options, the specific choice depends on design preferences.
In order to sew such a transformer, you need to prepare the following.
- Vlieseline Vliesofix with double-sided adhesive coating.
- Neoprene fabric with parameters 0.55 m x 1.4 m.
- Natural or artificial leather.
- Matting 1.6 by 0.45 m.
- Zipper length 35 cm.
- Three metal or plastic buckles.
- Additional elements are a skein of thread, scissors, a regular centimeter ruler and pins.
- 2 straps of 0.85 m each, equipped with carabiners.
Building a transformable backpack pattern
The first stage in the manufacture of any textile product is drawing the pattern on thick paper.
- The first 2 elements are rectangles. The largest has sides of 33 by 23 centimeters.
- The second has a more elongated shape with dimensions of 13 by 43 cm.
- Next, you need to lay out a small circle on a piece of paper, the radius of which is 14 cm.
- These parameters are created taking into account seam allowances and overlocking of the fabric.
IMPORTANT! At the second stage, each pattern piece should be carefully cut out and secured to the fabric.
How to sew a transforming backpack with your own hands
For the round base of the transformable bag you will need to use 3 layers: neoprene, matting and Vlieseline Vliesofix with double-sided adhesive coating.
IMPORTANT! The height of the backpack and the length of the straps can be changed depending on your height. Having even a little experience in creating patterns will allow you to create a transforming bag without much difficulty. The standard geometric shape of the parts makes the sewing process quite simple.
- After cutting out the corresponding parts, the first 2 blanks in the form of circles must be glued together using an iron. All 3 fabrics, including the non-woven layer, should be placed on the ironing board. Iron for 1.5 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius.
- In a similar way, you need to connect patterns of an elongated rectangle created from leather, fleece and neoprene fabric.
- Next, the resulting part with the long side will need to be sewn with a straight or any other seam to the circle. In this case, you need to step back 10 mm from the side.
- The formation of the backpack continues by making a pattern of 33 by 23 centimeters, 1 copy each: from neoprene and matting.
- The created parts are sewn along the widest side. A zipper is attached to the resulting top; the sections are not folded.
- Next, two tapes with sides 2 by 44 cm, pre-cut from leather, are glued to them. After which they are additionally stitched manually or on a sewing machine.
- Then we sew down the side seams of the backpack and attach 2 buckles to different ends of the zipper.
- For the handles, you need to cut 4 rectangular pieces 6x45 cm, two per handle. Additionally, these tapes must be combined with a two-centimeter square jumper. The finished straps are threaded through the buckles and fixed to the Vlieseline Vliesofix with an iron. Sew along the side seams.
- For buckle No. 3, cut out a 2.5 by 5 cm loop from a piece of leather. Sew it to the fabricated base of the backpack, created from glued parts.
- Now you just need to connect the bottom and top of the transformer with a seam from the inside out. In this case, the need to join the lower side seam with the top seam should be taken into account.
