Avoska is a mesh bag woven from durable threads for household purchases. Used in most cases for going to markets or grocery stores. When folded, such a bag takes up quite little space, as a result of which it fits well in a clothing pocket, backpack or bag.
There are different types of string bags. In addition to the usual bag with wicker, you can find a similar one, knitted by yourself. Such a thing did not fit into a clothing pocket, but the rigid design gave it more strength.
One of the types of such bags was also metal string bag. It was mainly made of metal mesh. This design gives it special strength, which allows you to carry heavy purchases.
Fabric - another variety. Bags made of fabric are lightweight, compact, have a unique design, and you can also put small items in this type because it does not have mesh holes.
We will tell you how to make a string bag with your own hands.
How to knit a string bag
Preparatory stage
To you You will need: a ball of strong thread, preferably synthetic. The work is being done crochet.
REFERENCE. The main type of knitting is chains of air loops (ch).
In addition, double crochet (dc) and single crochet (sc) are used.
You have the opportunity to change both the dimensions of the bag and the area of the cells, increasing or decreasing the number of vp for each step.
Completing of the work
The work can be done according to the diagram shown in the photo.
You can also use the description of knitting a classic string bag.
- First row - six chain stitches, knit into a ring.
- The second is twelve dc.
- Third - twenty-four sc.
- The fourth is an arch of four vp.
- Then in all rows add 1 ch in the arches until you reach twelve loops in the arch. Weave other rows of twelve.
- Once you reach the required height, make a “leveling” row: five chain stitches, three connecting stitches and so on until the end of the row.
- The remaining rows are as follows (do not subtract or add anything):
- Single crochets.
- Double crochets.
- 50 double crochets, 30 chain loops, 50 double crochets, 30 chain loops (In total there should be 160 chain loops).
- Double crochets.
How to sew a string bag from fabric
Materials and tools
You will need:
- cotton fabric;
- additional cotton fabric for the inner lining;
- scissors;
- sewing machine;
- a thread.
Completing of the work
- To begin, make two rectangles of fabric 45 by 35 cm (both outer and inner layers of fabric).
IMPORTANT! Thanks to the rectangular shape of the string bag, you can do without a paper pattern and cut directly onto the fabric.
- Then cut two 45 by 35 cm rectangles.
- Cut two handles, 50 cm long.
- On the long side of all rectangles, cut two 5 by 5 cm squares from the bottom corners only.
- Repeat the steps. This will form the base.
You can also use the string bag pattern.
- Pin the edges of the fabric together and sew straight seams along the sides and at the bottom of the garment.
Note. Leave the top and two cut corners unstitched.
- Pinch the gaps in the cut corners, aligning the side and bottom seams in the center. Attach straight and sew the seam. This step adds depth to the piece and creates a flat bottom.
- Pin the sides of the inner (lining) fabric rectangles together and repeat the above steps.
- Insert the inner layer of fabric so that the right sides are together.
- Attach handles between the inner and outer fabric of the bag.
- Pin the end of each handle about 10cm from the side seam, then pin the edges of the fabric around the perimeter of the opening of the piece.
- Starting at the side seam, sew a 1/2 inch seam almost all the way around.
- Pull both fabrics and handles through the ten-centimeter hole, turning the product inside out.
- Press lightly with a warm iron to remove bruises.
All is ready!
