DIY sled bag

DIY sled bagSleigh rides are one of the favorite winter activities for adults and children. A sled is a safer option for snowboarding. Sitting in them, you can conquer snow-covered hills. Every child will be happy with such “extreme”, and parents will not worry about the child’s health, because it is almost impossible to fall out of the sled.

To make sleds not only an exciting entertainment, but also a universal means of transportation for the baby, bags and covers for the sleds were invented. They are used to transport things of various sizes in sleds with a rigid handle.. Thanks to the secure fastening and dense material from which the bag is made, it can be used in any weather conditions - things will remain dry. A sleigh cover will make your baby’s walk more comfortable and warm.

REFERENCE! The bag and cover for the sled are also convenient because taking them off, washing and drying them is very simple, quick and easy.

What you need to sew a bag

Resourceful mothers decided not to spend money on buying expensive sled bags and created a way to make this useful thing with their own hands.

We'll consider two ways to create: with and without a pattern.

For a bag with a pattern

We will need the following.

  • Sewing machine.
  • Scissors.
  • Needle.
  • A thread.
  • A sheet of paper and a pen for a pattern.
  • Fur black fabric.
  • Black raincoat fabric.
  • The batting is black.
  • Foam rubber.
  • Fleece white and black.
  • Black buttons - 2 pcs.
  • Black floss.
  • The sling is black.
  • Gabardine black.
  • Two Velcro.

Simplified version

Sewing involves the use of such materials.

  • Thin mattress for a crib.
  • An adult's unnecessary down jacket.
  • Synthetic down.
  • Strings.
  • Scissors.
  • Thread and needle, pins.

REFERENCE! The use of a sewing machine for this option is not provided; the work can be done manually.

How to sew a bag for a sled

Sewing a sleigh cover is a labor-intensive process, but the result is definitely worth the effort.

The first method is with a pattern

To create a bag you must follow these steps.

Seat

  • To start create a pattern according to specified or own sizes.

pattern

  • Cut a pattern for the seat from fur fabric, adding a margin of 2 cm to the size.
  • Use raincoat fabric to cut out the footrest, also adding a couple of centimeters to the length.
  • Cut out a common piece for the seat and footrest from raincoat fabric, 75 cm long, taking into account the pattern provided above.
  • Similarly, cut a strip of batting 75 cm long.
  • From foam rubber, cut out a seat pattern the same size as the fur one in step 2.
  • Sew together the fur pattern for the seat and the part for the footrest made of raincoat fabric.
  • Cut a small piece of gabardine measuring 19 by 19 cm. Fold it in half and stitch the edge.
  • Turn inside out and stitch remaining edges. Trim off excess threads and edges.

Velcro

  • Sew two Velcro strips onto the gabardine “envelope” with the soft side down.bag with pattern
  • With the sticky side up, stitch the Velcro to the raincoat fabric in the center relative to the width and with an indentation of 5 cm relative to the length.
  • Using the given algorithm, create two more Velcro strips, each 8 cm long.
  • Sew them onto the same raincoat fabric: one at a distance of 23 cm from the seat, the other at a distance of 8 cm from the bottom of the footrest.

Shutdown

  • Sew fabric and fur pieces face to face.
  • Trim off any excess around the edges. Turn inside out.
  • Place the foam rubber on the batting. Sew them to each other with stitches.
  • Place the foam and batting inside the fur seat. Straighten it out.
  • Sew together the two sticky parts.

The result of the work is in the photo.

The second method - without a pattern

  • Cut a children's mattress or any insulated fabric to the size of the sleigh seat.bag without pattern
  • Turn the jacket upside down and attach it to the sled.
  • Mark the cutting line for the sleeves.
  • Place the mattress into the jacket and distribute evenly.
  • Turn the jacket inside out, sew all the holes from the sleeves and for the head.
  • Mark a place for the ties.
  • Use strings, thread them through the jacket, tie them on a rigid handle.

IMPORTANT! From the sleeves of a down jacket you can sew a comfortable and soft pillow for your baby. Just sew them together, leaving room for stuffing. Then stuff tightly, stitch around the edges and that’s it!

Enjoy your sleigh ride with your baby and you with this wonderful and warm bag-cover.
