Details of the bag and their cutting
The shopping bag consists of the following parts:
- two side walls;
- two end walls;
- top trim;
- two handles.
Having decided on the size and length of the straps, we begin cutting.
For side walls
- Take a piece of fabric 94 cm long and 44 cm wide (including seam allowances).
- Fold to form two equal parts (the “face” of the fabric inside).
For end walls
Cut two pieces of fabric 12 cm wide and 47 cm long.
For covering the top
To process the top you will need a narrow strip of fabric. To get the edging, you need to cut a ribbon 86 cm long and 5 cm wide.
For pens
- Using scissors, cut two strips of fabric 52 cm long and 8 cm wide.
- Fold the fabric widthwise inward “face” and stitch on the machine.
- The resulting sleeve should be sewn up on one side. After this, string the fabric onto a pencil and pull it through the resulting folds.
- Carefully pull the fabric completely through the unsewn side and cut the seam.
- We do the same with the second part.
Step-by-step instructions for sewing a shopping bag
There is no need for a separate pattern for the product.. We apply all the markings necessary for cutting directly onto the fabric.
We bend the prepared cut in half “face” inward, aligning exactly along the edges. Sew along the sides, leaving a centimeter indent.
IMPORTANT! To prevent fraying, we process the cuts with an overlocker.
We fold the strips of fabric for the straps lengthwise in the same way. After sewing the seam on the machine, carefully pull the fabric from the inside to the front side. Having straightened the part, iron it well.
We pin the prepared straps to the upper edge of the cover, retreating 10 cm from the sides. The side walls remain folded inwards “face down”. We insert the handle blanks between them. Their edges should coincide with the edge of the product.

We place the trim along the edge of the top on the “face” side. Having secured it with safety pins, we sew a machine seam, at the same time attaching the straps. We wrap the free edge of the covering with a centimeter hem and, having stitched it on the machine, we finish the work with the top of the product.
We decorate the resulting bag using a marker or special acrylic-based paints. But first you should make a sketch using a slate pencil. To avoid paint marks on the second side, we place whatman paper or oilcloth between them.
Evenness of lines will be achieved not only by a ruler, but also by confident, quick use of a brush. As soon as the hand trembles a little, the line in this place will immediately thicken.
If you are not confident in your artistic talents, use a stencil image. You can cut it out of paper. Newspaper sheets are useful for this.
ON A NOTE! Under no circumstances use a children's felt-tip pen to draw a design on the fabric: the bag will be irreparably damaged during the first wash.
