Master class: how to sew a textile bag with your own hands.

So, after choosing a pattern and material, all that remains is to get to work.
In this master class, I would like to consider the step-by-step production of a small shoulder bag, which is in greatest demand among girls and women of all ages.
Tools and materials required for work:

  • Material for the bag (pieces measuring 34 x 35; 34 x 27 and 2 pieces 27 x 13 cm);
  • Fabric for lining;
  • Dublerin (universal lining material);
  • 2 carbines;
  • 2 half rings for attaching a strap;
  • Magnetic button as a clasp;
  • Parts for the strap (fabric size 7X110 cm);
  • Sewing accessories: machine, scissors, thread, pins;Attention! The fabric colors presented in the master class are taken only as an example.
  • In order for the future bag to keep its shape well, it is necessary to treat the fabric chosen for it with dublerin.

Important! This must be done through gauze.

  • Next, we fold large pieces 34X35 and 34X27 together with right sides and sew along the bottom edge, leaving 1.5 centimeters of seam allowance. After this, the seam must be ironed.
  • We sew the side seams, while the parts should be folded with the outer sides facing each other. Leave a free edge in order to further turn the bag inside out.
  • After this you need to design the bottom of the bag.To do this, fold all the corners of the parts so that the bottom and side seams remain visible.

All corners of the parts are folded

  • We retreat 2.5 cm from the side seam and draw a line with a pencil. We sew the fabric along it.
  • Cut off the corner, leaving about a centimeter from the edge.
  • The same steps (5.6) must be repeated with a different angle.
  • The bottom of the bag is formed, you can turn it inside out.
  • Next, we take pieces of fabric for the future valve (27x13 cm) and sew them on three sides with the right sides facing each other.
  • After this, turn it inside out and stitch it again, leaving 0.5 cm from the edge.
  • Just above the seam we sew part of the magnetic button.

  • We connect the valve to the main part of the bag. To do this, you need to attach it with the front side to the back of the bag and sew it with a basting stitch.
  • We put the lining, sewn in the same way as the parts for the bag, with the front side on the workpiece, fasten it with pins at the top, stitch it at the bottom and on the sides.

Sew along the bottom and sides.

  • We turn the bag inside out through the hole left in the lining, iron it and stitch around it.
