Make your own home decor – this is a pleasant activity after a difficult day at work or an option for entertaining a child. Often, decoration does not require financial investment. Almost everyone at home has leftover ribbons, beads, sequins from old gifts or unused purchased supplies.
Satin ribbon star as a decorative element
A satin star can serve as a New Year's decoration for a Christmas tree or as a table decoration. If you connect several stars, you get a garland to decorate a window or door.
But the star is not always a symbol of the New Year. It can be part of a marine composition or serve as a decoration for a gift.
How to make a beautiful star from a satin ribbon yourself?
There are several ways to make a Christmas tree decoration.. The first and one of the simplest ones is using a ribbon and 5 bamboo sticks.
Assembly order:
- Each stick is sharpened on both sides at an angle. Then they are glued together one at a time at an acute angle to end up with a five-pointed star that is familiar to many. The wooden structure is allowed to dry.
- After this, you can start winding the tape. It is not recommended to use slippery and satin material, which will constantly slide off.
- Winding the ribbon starts from the edge of the beam, towards the middle. Then it is transferred to the adjacent beam and moved towards the tip. If the material still slips, the joints with the sticks are coated with glue.
- A similar procedure is carried out with all rays. The ribbon from the fifth ray is transferred to the middle of the star.
- After this, the product can be decorated with bows, beads or sequins. If it will be hung on the Christmas tree, then you need to tie a small thread.
If you brought shells, pebbles or plants from the sea, you can make a sea composition, photo frame or box. You can complement all this with starfish from atlas.
Tapes will do 4–5 cm wide.
- The tape is folded across, forming a square.
- The tape is cut diagonally from the top of the fold. The result is an isosceles triangle. A total of 5 such triangles will be required.
- Each triangle is folded in half and a fold line is marked, after which they are placed face down on the table and the top down.
- Each side of the triangle begins to gradually curl towards the middle. You can temporarily secure it with a tailor's pin.
- After both sides are curled, the protruding curled edges are cut off.
- The ray is folded in half and the bottom cut is singed to glue it together.
- They are then joined together into a star and stitched.
- The starfish can be decorated with beads.
A five-pointed star from a satin ribbon can be made in another way:
- A ribbon 6 cm long is cut and folded in half.
- Using a ruler from the corners where the tape connects, draw a straight line to the middle of the side. The resulting triangle is cut off.
- The cut area is treated with a lighter.
- Then the part unfolds and one petal of a star is obtained.
- A total of 5 such parts are needed, which are connected with a glue gun or stitched.
- The middle of the star can be decorated with a small applique or embroidered with beads.
Small stars from satin ribbon
Satin is used to make small stars that are used for wrapping gifts. This will require about 12 squares of satin ribbon with sides 5*5 cm.
It is not recommended to use less, as the stars will turn out inexpressive and difficult to assemble.
- The split ends of the workpieces are scorched with a lighter.
- Each square is bent diagonally, and then one corner is bent again towards the middle.
- The resulting cut is treated with a lighter to glue the part.
- Once all the parts are ready, you can proceed to assembling the product. Each piece is placed in another pocket and glued together with a glue gun.
- The middle of the star is decorated with a bead or rhinestones. You can glue ribbons to the back side.
A small star can be made using a template without using glue.
To do this, you need to make a template, wrap it sequentially with tape, pull out the template and secure the middle with a bead.
The template is made in the following order:
- Draw two perpendicular intersecting lines. Line length is the diameter of the finished product.
- The right angle of the resulting cross is divided in half by a segment of the same length. The result will be 8 vertices of the future star.
- Each vertex is connected to another through 2 vertices.
- The resulting star is cut out and used as a template.
Making such stars is very easy, even a child can handle them. But, as in other types of needlework, patience and accuracy are required here. If you are making a craft for the first time, take extra material so that you can make a trial version.
