Satin ribbons are an indispensable attribute of a muslin young lady or little girl; serious girls have been trying them on for several seasons now. The craze for the kanzashi technique, as well as ribbon embroidery, has brought lovely satin items back into our craft boxes. They are perfect as a finishing for thin fabrics, in particular tulle.
Necessary materials
In order to sew ribbons to the product, we you will need the following:
- tulle;
- fleece tapes of the required width;
- thin sewing needle;
- a set of pins;
- matching threads;
- lighter;
- steam iron;
- ironing – thick natural white fabric.
Important! Since the synthetic satin from which ribbons are now made melts easily, we iron the product only through an iron. The recommendations for tulle are similar.
Which products require this finishing:
- For making veils or complex headdresses.
- Sewing tulle skirts:
- American.
- Pack.
- The sun and its variations, including multi-layered.
- Sewing ballroom, variety and carnival costumes, as well as petticoats for them.
Since tulle does not wear out and its edge does not fray, finishing around the edges is not necessary, but it gives a neat, finished look to the product.
Step by step how to sew satin ribbon to tulle
Progress:
Option 1
- We measure out the required amount of tape equal to the perimeter of the edge of the main product. We remember that the lengths of the materials must match, we do not fold the tape.
- We burn the free edges of the ribbon with a lighter very carefully so that there are no brown streaks.
Advice! In addition to a lighter, you can use a hot knife or scissors. The cut does not unravel and turns out perfectly smooth.
- We process the edge of the main fabric with tape like bias tape, folding it in half. Since tulle does not stretch, the ribbon, although not cut on the bias, will still not wrinkle.
- If we are sewing a skirt, then we loop our tape, stitching it on a machine.
- We pin the tape around the cut with pins.
- We stitch it.
- Steam.
- Let's try it on.
Advice! If you are sewing ribbons that are not looped, then at the end of the work, coat the cut with glue, for example, PVA, it will prevent the threads from unraveling. In the same way, you can process tulle with finished bias tape; it will be very similar in appearance, but it is much more convenient to work with.
Option 2:
- We measure out satin ribbons in quantities greater than the perimeter of the edge by 2-3 times.
- We process the edge of the main part with a narrow zigzag stitch.
- We adjust the ribbons to the front part strictly in the center of the ribbon, thus forming folds.
- Steam.
- Let's try it on.
Processing tulle with ribbons is especially relevant for the image of a bride in the style of the 60s, then both the veil and the skirt with such trim will look very advantageous.
