How to wash fleece

Fleece jacketFleece products are ubiquitous and this is quite justified. Athletes and tourists value it for its ability to retain heat, young mothers for its low weight and volume, lovers of home comfort for its pleasant tactile sensations.

In order for fleece fabric to retain its qualities for as long as possible, it needs proper care.

Washing fleece items

Fleece, like any other synthetic material, requires careful handling and special conditions when washing. There are few rules and they are all simple - follow them and your things will delight you with their beautiful appearance for a long time.

Reference: fleece items cannot be dry cleaned

How to wash fleeceBefore you begin the process, pay attention to the label. On it, the manufacturer indicates the information necessary for the user: washing and drying modes, the possibility of using special products. All fleece products are marked the same:

  • Temperature 30 (maximum 40);
  • Prohibition on spinning;
  • Prohibition on the use of aggressive detergents;
  • A crossed out iron indicates the impossibility of ironing the item;
  • Other recommendations (if fleece is one of the components in a combined product).

Reference: When dried properly, fleece items do not need ironing.

Purchase all the necessary detergents in advance: it is not recommended to wash fleece with regular powder.

Washing a fleece blanket

Fleece itemsA blanket is an indispensable attribute of family comfort. It is good to warm up in the cold months, and there are plenty of them in our climate. Such things rarely get dirty, but they still require washing periodically.

Reference: It is enough to wash a fleece blanket once every 3 months - you will remove accumulated dust and refresh the fabric.

It will take a little time to rid your favorite blanket of traces of cocoa or tea, crumbs and other dirt. It is recommended to wash bulky fleece items by hand - so that the fabric does not lose its properties, a lot of space is needed. There is little of it in ordinary washing machines.

The bath provides ample space. Fill it with warm water so as to completely hide the product. Stick to the temperature - a water thermometer will help you control it. Add powder to the water: there is one specialized for fleece on sale. If this is not found, then anyone labeled “For delicate fabrics” can replace it, for example, all children’s series and liquid gels.

Reference: The powder must be in liquid or gel form. If it is free-flowing and you don’t have anything else at hand, then dissolve the required amount in warm water. Sift out the lumps that remain in any case through gauze, a strainer or other fabric.

A fleece blanket can be left soaked for a while. This will remove dirt and stains from the fabric faster. If small marks remain after soaking, carefully remove them by washing the specific area. Drain the water and rinse the blanket.Add antistatic conditioner.

Take out the blanket and let the water drain into the bathroom. You cannot wring out or hang a wet blanket - this can deform the fabric and it will lose its quality. After the water has stopped dripping, place the blanket on a horizontal surface (a slight tilt is allowed). Avoid proximity to radiators and fan heaters.

Reference: It is acceptable to wring the fleece by hand. This should be done carefully, without twisting: just gather the fabric in your palm and squeeze lightly.

Washing fleece jackets and ski suits

Fleece jackets and ski suitsThese complex, combined products are very demanding to wash. All recommendations can be found on clothing labels or read on the manufacturer’s website.

Before loading things into the machine (if this type of washing is chosen) or soaking them in a basin (or other container), you need to do the preparatory work:

  • Unfasten the parts (hood, edge, cuffs, etc.);
  • Fasten zippers, buttons and rivets;
  • Empty your pockets;
  • Turn things inside out;
  • To machine wash: Place item in a fabric bag.

Reference: Outerwear should be washed after the end of the season.

Recommendations for choosing detergents and hand washing procedures are exactly the same as for a fleece blanket. The difference is that after finishing washing, during rinsing, you should add a special product that will restore the hydrophobic property of the fabric. It can also be produced in the form of a spray and applied to a dried item.

Jackets and ski suits should be dried by hanging them on hangers after the water has completely drained.

How to wash fleece in a washing machine

how to wash fleece jackets and ski suitsWashing in a machine is faster and less troublesome than washing by hand. To avoid damaging the fabric, select the no-spin mode for delicate or synthetic fabrics.If the program has a soaking function, then use it.

It is better to wash fleece products separately from other fabrics. To achieve the best result, depending on the volume of the drum, place 2-3 items in it. Buy fabric laundry bags of different sizes, and choose the one in which the item fits as freely as possible.

At what temperature should you wash fleece?

If the mode is selected manually, then remember that the water temperature should not exceed 30. In some cases, the manufacturer additionally indicates the possibility of increasing this indicator to 40. If this value is exceeded, the fleece fibers will lose their softness and elasticity.

What detergent to wash

The right choice of detergents is the key to a long life of fleece. Do not use chlorine bleach. Purchase special powder or gel, conditioner with “Antistatic” effect. If necessary, use additional means to restore one or another function of the fabric that is impaired upon contact with water.

An alternative to hand washing powder can be regular laundry soap: rub the bar on a grater or crumble it with a knife. Dissolve the resulting mass completely in water and only then add it to the main volume.

Proper drying of fleece items

Fleece should be dried either on hangers (if the shape of the product allows it) or on a flat surface. Do not use hair dryers or other devices. Fleece products dry quickly, and if you wash them in the morning, by the evening you can again enjoy their softness and tenderness.

Reviews and comments
N Nadia:

The temperature in the washing machine corresponds to the recommendations; I have never considered fleece to be a finicky fabric; I have been wearing a fleece suit for several years. I don’t like ironing and I don’t iron it, but for me it’s a sensation that this fabric cannot be ironed. We haven’t washed anything with powders for a long time, but we often use the spin cycle. After reading this, I will now become even more careful with fleece items, as they are very warm and comfortable.
