DIY flock

DIY flockToday you can often hear about a material called flock. Its main feature is its surface effect, similar to a pile. This is achieved by a special process called flocking.

Features of the technology

This is a process in which short fibers are “glued” to the surface of fabrics using an adhesive material. It covers the entire surface of the fabric. And if the glue is applied to the fabric in a separate pattern, the fibers will stick only to the printed areas.

The pile can be made from any type of fiber: cotton, nylon, polyester, etc.

REFERENCE. For situations that require good abrasion resistance, nylon may be chosen.

flockThe fibers are processed in a special device - a flocker. You can also purchase ready-made crushed material for further gluing. And we will tell you how to make it yourself, using improvised means.

The durability of treated fabrics largely depends on the adhesive composition and its ability to survive washing or dry cleaning.

Materials and tools for making flock yourself

You will need to prepare the following.materials

  • Msoft light soap, does not contain any dyes or flavors. They may cause an allergic reaction.
  • Connecting element: Half a cup of cornstarch mixed with enough water to make a glue. Or equivalent all-purpose white glue, again more than half a cup.
  • Fibers for grinding.
  • Device for performing work (drill, mixer).

How to make flock with your own hands

We will tell you how to make flock yourself, performing 4 steps step by step.manufacturing

  • Step one is to combine the ingredients. Mix soap flakes with liquid cornstarch or white glue in a container. Work with a hand mixer or a mixer attached to an electric drill.
  • Step two - add warm water. Add a small amount of warm water. Pour it in slowly to make a very stiff mixture.
  • Step Three - Add Tint or Glitter (Optional). If you want a sparkly effect or a pop of color, now is the time to add it. But don't overdo it
  • Step Four - Complete Mixing. At this stage, the fibers are impregnated and particles of material are formed. After this, let it dry thoroughly and you will get a flock.

Now all that remains is to apply the flock you prepared yourself onto a surface coated with glue, and the fabric with the same name will be ready.
