Guipure is a lace fabric consisting of individual elements interconnected by an openwork weave. Its properties depend on the ratio of smooth and embossed parts of the pattern elements, as well as on the percentage of lycra added.
Important! The closer the lace elements are located to each other, the denser and stiffer the material.
Italy is considered the birthplace of guipure. Fashionistas of the 16th century used expensive fabric for decorative elements of clothing: collars, inserts on bodices and skirts, gloves.
Modern trends have made it possible to expand the range of applications of this material. They favorably emphasize femininity and go well with a variety of clothes, from formal skirts to frivolous jeans, and guipure blouses. The fabric for it can be used in any density; there is no need to make a cover for it.

This material is quite easy to process, so even a novice craftswoman can complete this task on her own.
For sewing you will need:
- guipure size 60*150 cm;
- scissors, pins;
- chalk;
- ruler, measuring tape;
- threads in color;
- sewing machine.
Attention! Before you begin, you need to measure your arm circumference and chest circumference.
Step-by-step instruction
First you need to fold the fabric in half, cut along the fold line, you will get a pair of panels measuring 60*75 cm. Then fold it in half again (37.5 cm - width, 60 cm - length).
The pattern itself is drawn up on the material:
- From the top right corner, mark down 6 cm.
- Place the neckline point at a distance of 9 cm from the fold to the right and 3 cm towards you.
- Draw the shoulder line and the neck arc.
- From the edge of the sleeve, measure down half the arm circumference.
- From the fold of the material at the bottom, mark 1/4 of the chest circumference.
- Connect the resulting points with a smooth curve; on the side you should get a rectangle with a beveled corner.
- Cut the fabric along the drawn outline to make two identical parts.
- Cut the neckline a little deeper on the front than on the back (by 1–3 cm). The middle will not be needed.
- Using a sewing machine, join the pattern along the shoulder and side seams.
- Process the bottom line, neckline, sleeves and side parts remaining from cutting. Then, using pins, attach the latter to the neck in two rows at an angle, forming small folds.
- Using a sewing machine, sew a straight stitch along the collar fastening lines.
All that remains is to remove the pins - the blouse is ready.
Little secrets of successful sewing
- to create a pattern, use chalk or a piece of soap - they are easily washed and do not leave marks;
- when measuring the girth of the figure, do not forget to add 1.5–2 cm per seam;
- It is permissible to join parts using an overlocker or a sewing machine with an additional stitching function;
- if the sections are treated with satin trim, the finished product will look neat;
- the edges of the neckline, sleeves, and bottom can be decorated with pre-cut guipure elements or edge scallops: their protruding edges do not crumble and look stylish;
- if the fabric stretches a lot, reinforce the seams with cotton tape;
- In order not to spoil the beautiful pattern, choose a simple model with a minimum number of seams.
