The times when an apron was a mandatory part of the student uniform for girls are long gone. However, this attribute is still symbol of school life. Modern girls wear it only when dressing up Last call or in Day of Knowledge. So that a graduate can dress up appropriately just once for her holiday, as all girls have been doing for several decades now, an apron can be bought in a store or ordered for tailoring. But its production is so simple that almost any, even the most inexperienced needlewoman can cope with this work.
For those who decide to create an apron with their own hands, first of all they should choose the appropriate fabric for it. Materials such as lace, organza, satin, sewing, and tulle are perfect for this purpose. But the most traditional outfit is still considered to be guipure.
- Matter, size 2.8 * 1 m.
- Ribbon of lace or finished narrow sewing – 8 m.
- White threads.
- Sewing machine.
- Overlock (but this is not necessary; you can get by with a zigzag stitch or tucking the edges).
Step-by-step manufacturing instructions
Step 1
Let's calculate the length of the straps. This indicator largely depends on the person’s personal parameters: height and waist circumference. To calculate it, you need to add the height of the back to the size of the shelf.
Step 2
Determine the length of the “skirt” part of the outfit. To do this, you simply need to measure the distance from the waistband to the desired hem line. The width of the apron can be calculated as follows: the waist circumference must be divided by two and added a little to the resulting figure in order to form folds. Based on the diagram, you need to draw a pattern on paper. To do this, you need to use your own measurements.
Step 3
The belt can be marked directly on the fabric. Its width will be approximately 3 cm, plus seam allowances. Now you need to cut a strip with a length equal to the waist circumference, to which you need to add 30 cm for tying. Narrow lace or sewing is also suitable for this element. If the ends are made a little wider, the bow will look more beautiful.
Step 4
Modeling the shelf pattern. Don’t forget about the allowances, you need to add 3 cm on all sides except the top. On the chest, the fabric can be decorated with sewing.
Step 5
When cutting out the ruffles of the straps, increase their length by one and a half to two times. The optimal width is from 10 to 15 cm, the frill should be cut on the bias. To do this, you need to measure the length of the perimeter of the bottom of the apron, making it 50-100% longer.
Step 6
We collect all the received parts into a single whole:
- We process the flounces with a zigzag stitch or on an overlocker. A decorative seam can be made along the outside.
- Sew the frill to the “skirt” part of the apron.
- We connect the straps and the insert, attach the flounces so that they lie in folds.
- Sew the belt to the top and bottom of the outfit.
Here you have a wonderful accessory for a schoolgirl. All that remains is to put it on a suitable dress.
