Cashmere

Cashmere fabric

What is cashmere?

In the modern fashion world, you often hear the word “cashmere” in combination with a variety of wardrobe items. This name is given to non-thick and soft fabric for coats, high-quality jumpers, hats made of fluffy materials, thin shawls and other beautiful luxury items.

You should know that the composition of the fabric of such items differs from ordinary wardrobe items. It contains only elite quality fluff, which is distinguished by its high cost. This allows you to maintain high quality products for decades, as well as the presence of material properties even after many years, for example, elasticity, softness, decent appearance and the ability to retain heat.

Cashmere clothing finds a place in the collections of the world's leading fashion designers, and is often shown at exclusive shows. World celebrities are attracted by this material for its simplicity and high quality. You can constantly see stars on the covers of glossy magazines in simple jumpers and dresses that have a high price.

Cashmere acquired its name thanks to the Himalayan principality, where it was first produced and popularized. It was from there that thin down shawls came and became widespread in Europe in the 19th century.

Genuine cashmere is made from the undercoat of the Tibetan goat, which lives in the mountainous areas of India, Pakistan, Mongolia and China. It loses its special properties in other countries of the world, this is due to climatic conditions that negatively affect the fabric.

This undercoat of animal fluff has extremely low weight, which is ensured by the thinness of the villi, which are several times thinner than human hair. Its properties are much healthier than ordinary silk; it warms better and is softer. The fluff is collected manually.

On average, about 100 grams of valuable material is collected from one animal. It can be calculated that the creation of one shawl requires an annual amount of valuable raw materials from five individuals, and the fabric for creating coats of different lengths requires three times as much fur.

The entire process of production, spinning, and dyeing is done by hand. This lasts for more than a month. And only after these treatments the canvas is sent to create wardrobe products. It is the production process that determines the cost of the fabric and makes the price so high. Also, the cost is based on the thickness of the material; the smallest fiber thickness is required; in addition, the color of the material is valued. There are several categories of yarn and products made from them:

Cashmere woolThe cheapest fabric is made from the wool of a goat that lives in the mountains of Tibet; it is commercially called “Kashmir wool”. Its properties are preserved; it holds heat just as well despite the high thinness of the material. Despite the fact that the raw materials are the cheapest in this range of goods, they still retain their high cost and nevertheless enjoy enormous popularity.

In many cases, silk, viscose, and merino wool are used in the composition. The purpose of the addition is to reduce the price of the product, but such an innovation guarantees a deterioration in the original properties of cashmere.
Standards that were formed in the Russian Federation, cashmere is the softest and thinnest material. The composition is determined by the twill weave wool.

Western businessmen often reduce the quality of the materials they sell by using merino yarn in coat fabrics, which serves as the basis for production. Large companies are trying to save on product quality, which is provoked by the low education of consumers in this area. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully consider the purchase of products made from such materials or the raw materials themselves. It is required to study the composition of the product with great care and use the services of trusted companies, whose popularity has faded over the years.

The main properties of high-quality cashmere were listed, which serve as a distinctive feature of the material.
