You can't stop living beautifully. But there are telltale stains on your cashmere coat, it’s deep night outside, and in addition, there is too little money in your wallet to use dry cleaning services. Still, there is no need to panic. In this article we will tell you how to emerge victorious in the fight against dirt on your favorite clothes.
How to remove stains on cashmere
Start cleaning with the most important thing - a thorough inspection of the product. To do this, you will need a hanger and a well-lit place. Examine every inch of the fabric so as not to miss a single spot, fray or grease. Collar, pockets, cuffs are problem areas of any outerwear, pay special attention to them.
The next step is to study the product tag. It contains recommendations for caring for the item and permissible temperature values for washing. After this, choose a cleaning method based on the nature of the item’s contamination.
Fighting greasy stains
With such contamination on a light-colored item, your best assistant is baby talc.Sprinkle it on the dirty area and wait a while. The talc will pull all the fat onto itself. All you have to do is shake off the powder with your hand. If the effect does not seem sufficient the first time, repeat the procedure again.
To get rid of stains on a dark coat, soak a cotton pad in gasoline and apply to the stained area. After this, wash the item in cool water and dry it. To remove gasoline smell, use a soap solution.
There is another, less popular way. Apply dishwashing gel to a wet sponge, wipe the greasy stain with it, collect the remaining cleaning agent with a damp cloth and dry the cloth with paper towels.
Fighting difficult stains
To win the battle with “difficult” stains, follow these rules:
- remove stains fresh;
- do not rub the contaminated area so as not to damage the fibers;
- always test a cleaning product before using it;
- work the fabric from the wrong side.
IMPORTANT! Do not wash stained cashmere in hot water, otherwise you will forever lose the opportunity to save your clothes.
Paint stains
The cleaning method depends on the type of paint:
- oil paints are removed using kerosene or purified gasoline, after which the product is washed with shampoo;
- enamel paint is removed with acetone or nail polish remover;
- acrylic is easily washed off with warm water, but you should act immediately: this paint dries very quickly.
How to clean a cashmere coat at home
Home cleaning can be dry or wet. The first is suitable for daily care of an item when contamination is minimal - dust or small debris. Dry powder, spray, or abrasive agents are applied to the clothes, after which they are cleaned with a soft brush or a reusable sticky roller.Wet cleaning typically means steaming the coat, hand washing it according to the label directions, or cleaning with liquid products (solutions, stain removers, fabric softeners) and a damp sponge.
IMPORTANT! To eliminate contamination of unknown origin, use a universal remedy. Mix glycerin and ammonia in equal proportions. Wipe the fabric with the resulting mixture, then blot it with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dirt.
How to wash cashmere at home
Unfasten, if any, all fur decorative elements. If this cannot be done, you will have to tear off the fur and sew it back in place after cleaning.
Before putting your coat in the washing machine, remove all existing jewelry: brooches, buttons and other metal objects. During the washing process, they can either ruin the cashmere or deteriorate themselves, becoming covered with rust. To maintain the shape of the product, turn it inside out and fasten it.
IMPORTANT! Before putting your item in the wash, check your pockets.
For maximum protection of the integrity of your product, use a special washing bag. An ordinary duvet cover or pillowcase will also work as such.
You should not add fabric softeners to your machine. Use hair care products instead. This way you will maintain the softness of the cashmere product and will not damage the fibers.
Set the correct wash cycle in your washing machine. If there is no special mode for cashmere in the list, set the necessary parameters yourself. You can select the woolen or delicate wash mode by turning off the spin option. Remember, the water temperature should not exceed +30 °C!
IMPORTANT! Do not overuse machine washing, as this may cause the cashmere hairs to become intertwined, which will worsen the appearance of the item.
