Crepe reaper - what kind of fabric is it?

Crepe-reaper is a material that visually appears wrinkled due to its structure and the specifics of the weaving technology. The range of use is quite wide: from bed linen and home clothes to interior decor.

Features of using and sewing products from the reaper

The header is a textured fabric that takes its name from the word “compressed,” which is what it is. This effect is achieved using heat treatment and is maintained after any number of washes. The advantage is lightness, softness and pleasant appearance coupled with strength and durability. Depending on the specific material, it has a wide range of uses: from creating home comfort to protecting from bad weather while hiking.

Composition, what it looks like, properties

The header may contain polyester, cotton and viscose, that is, it is more of a synthetic material than natural, but at the same time it is not electrified. Synthetic material allows you to paint the header in any color, even the brightest.Even the natural varieties come in different colors, although in this case they are paler. Usually the header is plain or with a relief pattern; detailed drawings are rarely found on it.

Easily restores its shape, does not wrinkle, does not require ironing. Easy to care for - just wash as needed without following strict conditions. Does not require dry cleaning or other cleaning methods. It is quite convenient and multifunctional, so it is popular in everyday life.

Types of material

The material has several varieties that differ from each other in composition and properties:

  1. Cotton or silk are environmentally friendly, hygienic and the most comfortable types of reaper. Used to make bed linen and home textiles.
  2. Viscose is a synthetic type characterized by lightness, softness and low cost. Ideal as a material for summer clothing, as it wears well in hot weather.
  3. Polyester (wholly or partly) is cheap and durable, but tough. Suitable for sewing curtains, bedspreads, festive clothes (when comfort is not in first place).
  4. “Crumple texture” with polyurethane fibers and PVC impregnation is a durable fabric that is not subject to deformation, does not allow water to pass through and is resistant to sudden temperature changes. Retains heat well without interfering with oxygen access. It is used to make camping equipment, including backpacks and tents.

How to wash and iron a header?

  1. You can wash it in a machine in a standard spin mode, but the water temperature should not exceed 40 degrees. Any washing powder will not work - only soft, gentle. Ideally, use liquid detergent or even baby detergent. Bleach is not allowed.
  2. To dry, the fabric should be straightened, smoothed with your hands and hung at room temperature. It does not require ironing, but if it dries while crumpled, it may become deformed. This problem is solved with the next wash - will remain in the condition in which it dried.
  3. You should not squeeze by twisting, this stretches the structure and breaks it. Just shake off the excess water and let the rest drain away - it won't take much time.
  4. You should not dry the header on a hot radiator or under the scorching sun - it may shrink irrevocably and lose its softness and brightness.

It happens that the header shrinks after washing. Then it needs to be steamed with an iron from the inside out, slightly stretching it. Also, the shape can be returned by simple moistening (but not completely), after which the item should simply be hung up to dry as usual. So if the header has stopped being compressed, then this is not forever.

Tips for choosing reaper crepe products

  1. When choosing things from this material, preference should be given to natural fabrics with a pronounced pattern (this confirms the quality).
  2. For decoration, you can choose bright colors, and home textiles from the harvester look better in pastel shades.
  3. If you intend to use products in more severe conditions (streetwear, tourism), then the predominance of synthetics will be a plus - thanks to it, the header does not allow moisture to pass through, retains heat and at the same time allows the skin to breathe.

Important! When purchasing, you should look at the washing recommendations and other rules of use, as differences may occur depending on the specific material. It is also worth paying attention to the composition and properties - these qualities must be logically combined with each other (polyester cannot be soft, and cotton is not waterproof).
