Linen

Linen is a unique fabric with a thousand-year history. This completely natural material is not only easy to use, it has healing properties, and therefore in the modern world, products made from it are no less popular than in the days of our ancestors.

Peculiarities

Flax is an inconspicuous annual plant. For the production of fabric, two varieties are used: dolgunets and kudryash. Growing flax is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. Good lighting, maintaining a certain temperature, and moderate humidity are necessary.

Direct production of canvas is also a troublesome and costly matter, even if we are talking about industrial production. That is why a good linen product is not cheap.

Among the main characteristics of high-quality fabric are the following:

1. Hygroscopicity. Linen absorbs moisture well and dries quickly. That is why it is so popular in the production of towels.
2. Thermal conductivity. Linen products can withstand temperatures up to 170 degrees. It will not be hot even on a hot afternoon.
3. Resistance to alkalis and acids.This fabric can be soaked in a vinegar solution and not be afraid for its integrity. At the same time, ordinary boiling in soapy water is even beneficial for such a fabric: it will become softer and more pleasant to the touch.
4. Poor stretchability. If the fabric is made of linen, without adding synthetics, then it has almost no stretch and is ideal for sewing linings.

Among the main disadvantages are strong creasing and roughness of the fabric. But these days they are easily eliminated by adding synthetic components to the composition.
