Light translucent fabric is widely used for sewing curtains, skirts, wedding and evening dresses, as well as all kinds of accessories. Despite its airiness, organza is quite stiff and dense, so it is not easy to iron.
It is made mainly from artificial fibers, although there are also examples made from natural silk. Such fabric requires proper care, only then will your product retain its original color and shape for a long time.
How to iron organza after hand washing
Many housewives use high temperatures in pursuit of cleanliness. But in the case of organza, this should not be done. The optimal temperature for this fabric is 40 degrees. Hand washing is more gentle, so it will be the best option. To obtain a more effective result, you must first soak the product for an hour and a half.
Attention! When washing organza, do not use water temperatures above 40 degrees! This condition will protect the fabric from deformation.
Organza products should also be ironed on a warm setting. As a rule, after hand washing there are no strong creases left. Therefore, you can easily walk gently over the surface of the fabric with just a warm iron. Do not use horizontal steaming or a water spray. Both of these methods may leave visible stains. Often, to get the best result, you have to iron the organza on both sides.
Important! Do not squeeze the product with your hands under any circumstances. This can severely disrupt the fiber weave and create irreparable deformation. Don't be afraid to hang organza out wet, it dries quite quickly.
How to iron organza tulle after machine washing
The main problem with ironing curtains, tulle and drapes is their size. The length and width of the products significantly exceeds the parameters of the ironing board. Very often, an already ironed area will crumple again while you are working on the other edge of the tulle.
Advice! Prepare additional area for hanging the already ironed part of the curtain. This could be a table, sofa, bed or clothes dryer.
Machine washing is more effective and comfortable than hand washing, but it may wrinkle the product more. Be sure to use the spin cycle at the lowest possible speed. It’s best to use the no-spin mode. After machine washing, organza tulle will most likely have to be ironed through the fabric. To do this, prepare two pieces of white cotton. Place one on the ironing board, and the second on top of the product. The iron should not be too hot, as even through cotton, organza can melt.
Important! It is better not to use gauze, as it is unlikely to protect the tulle from the hot temperature of the iron.
How to carefully and accurately iron organza tulle with an iron if it is severely wrinkled
It is not always possible to avoid severe bruising and pronounced breaks. In such cases, it is still recommended to use steaming or use a damp cloth.
Important! Fill the steamer with crystal clear water. It's better if it's filtered. This will protect the tulle from limescale and red stains.
Test using a wet cloth or steamer on an inconspicuous area first. Most likely, the temperature will have to be increased slightly. Try to treat difficult areas with the corner of the iron first, it is always less hot, this will protect you from burns. Many housewives practice ironing organza products while wet. But this is a matter of taste. This method is good only when the sole of the iron is perfectly smooth and frequent.
Attention! If you are machine washing, place your curtain in a special laundry bag. This way it will not have direct contact with the surface of the drum.
How to straighten organza curtains or tulle without an iron
If you are the happy owner of a special steamer, then you will not need an iron. Simply hang the tulle on the curtain rod and use vertical steam. This can also be done with an iron, setting the finest dispersion.
Attention! Do not bring the steamer too close to the product. Apply steam blasts at a sufficient distance to avoid the formation of unwanted stains.
In what cases can you not iron organza window textiles?
If you used hand washing and hung the window textiles on the curtain rod while wet, they may expand under their own weight. This method will save you from the need for ironing. After the product has completely dried, inspect it carefully. If you see slightly dented areas, you can use vertical steaming.
Note! The density of the fabric may be different; it may have embroidery, printing, or perforation. All these differences make care individual. Select washing and ironing modes depending on the characteristics of your organza.
